"On The Spirit of Motherhood"

Acts 9:41

“He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.” - Acts 9:41 NIV

As the 48^th Biennial Conference quickly approaches, I am stuck on the Spirit of Motherhood. Mother’s Day 2025 reminded me that every son and every daughter has a mother. I was reminded of: women who have gone to the Lord, women who labor night and day for the care of their children, women who are expecting and soon to be mothers, women who have adopted and share the love of foster care, women who have lost a child to death and must carry on while mothering the child of someone else.

Dorcas, or Tabitha, was every bodies kind of Christian woman. She was charitable in her work and charitable in her giving. She cared greatly for the poor. However, she became sick and died. Those who cared for her sent for Peter, the Pastor. It was too late! It was too late: to call her primary care physician, the specialist in charge of her care, or hospice. She was dead. But it was not too late to call the Pastor, in this case, the Man of God who made himself available.

Upon arrival, Peter is taken to an upper room, and yes, this great Chirstian woman was dead. Peter ushers everyone out of the room, gets down on bend knees and has a little private talk with the LORD. When he had finished praying, he looked on her and three words from heaven came from his mouth: “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes. “He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive."

He called for the believers, especially the widows.  The widows: who had lost their grandparents, their mothers and fathers, their husbands, a child and even children. Tabitha was none of theirs, she was another mother’s child. These were women, mothers, who had lost a child to death and must carry on while mothering the child of someone else.

Often our Mother’s Day celebrations are about giving thanks and high praise to Grandmama and Mama for bringing us into the world, taking care of us, educating us, and helping us through our hurts, pains and disappointments. On Mother’s Day we celebrate them with thanks, gifts, dinners, cards and tears of grief long after they have gone home to be with the LORD.

So, for Mother’s Day 2025, I was reminded to give thanks, high praise and great honor to Mothers who are still with us showing strong faith, resilience and love, having lost a child, even children. How often do they do so during the celebration, holding to the unspoken grief, of missing her Baby Boy, missing her Baby Girl. Please, don’t forget her in your prayers. Just thought you’d like to know what, “The Spirit of Motherhood,” is like.

This 48^th Biennial is welcoming over 250 attendees -- including clergy, congregants, educators, organizers, youth leaders, and justice seekers – those who labor with love, fueled by faith and committed to collective transformation. This conference is more than a meeting – it is a movement!

With hearts full of faith and purpose, members and friends of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus gather again for the sacred and powerful convening of the 48^th Biennial National Black Presbyterian Caucus Conference. The conference, set in the vibrant city of Charlotte, NC, this year’s conference boldly proclaims a timeless truth: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58). This rallying cry calls us to reflect on the eternal significance of our work in ministry, justice and community. Together we will be renewed in spirit, strengthened in purpose, and united in vision as Black Presbyterians from across the nation come together to celebrate, strategize, and soar.

You might ask, how will this 48^th Biennial Conference benefit me? Here are 5 key actions this Biennial Conference will strive to accomplish:



1. Spiritual Empowerment – To uplift every attendee with the reminder that their efforts matter eternally, and their labor is Never in vain.
2. Community Engagement – To deepen our commitment to justice, vitality, and prophetic witness within our churches and neighborhoods.
3. Leadership Development – To equip a new generation of change-makers and spiritual leaders to lead with courage, vision and faith.
4. Fellowship and Renewal – To celebrate the beauty of belonging, of being seen and known, as we worship, laugh, pray, and learn together. 
5. Inspired Action – To ignite a fire for service, activism, and Christ-centered change that lasts far beyond these three days.

Throughout the conference, you will be inspired by Voices of Vision: Keynote Speakers and Special Guests. Leading theological minds, prophetic justice advocates, and powerful voices from the Black Presbyterian tradition will remind us that our work in the Lord reverberates through the generations.

The Transformative Workshops and Dynamic Sessions offered include:

• The Power of Labor in Christ – A rich theological dive into the scripture theme which is 1 Corinthians 15:58 and the call to faithful service.
• Faith and Social Justice – Bridging the gospel and the streets: how faith drives real, lasting change.
• Building Stronger Communities Through Faith – Equipping churches to be beacons of hope and hubs of transformation.
• Leadership for the Future – Nurturing the next generation of prophetic leaders and visionaries.

The 48^th Biennial National Black Presbyterian Caucus Conference will be a sanctuary for the soul and a launchpad for justice. To lead boldly. To labor in love.

Vendor and Exhibitor Form

The National Black Presbyterian Caucus is inviting organizations to participate and share their resources during the 48ᵗʰ Biennial Conference held at The SouthPark Marriott Hotel in Charlotte, NC. The conference will take place June 19-21, 2025, and vendors will be given two passes with their booth fee (this does not include meals or registration). If you would like to participate in the conference you must register and pay the full registration amount. The exhibit hall will consist of tables and two folding chairs only. If electricity or AV/internet access is needed a hotel contact person will be provided once the $250 registration fee is received.
