Strengthening Security on NC3Certs

Dear NC3 network,

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing NC3Certs and delivering a more secure, accessible, and user-friendly certification experience, our next major platform update introduces Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This added security measure helps ensure that only authorized users can access their accounts and provides an extra layer of protection for certification data.

In this email, you'll find information about what to expect, why this change is being implemented, and how to prepare for the transition.

Stay tuned as we continue rolling out additional platform enhancements to improve your NC3Certs experience! Next up...Single Sign-on (SSO) enrollment opportunity!

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA will be enabled for NC3Certs Accounts in approximately three weeks!

To prepare for this rollout, please review the email address associated with your NC3Certs account:

  • All personnel (Instructors, Campus Administrators, Website Support) must use their official organizational email address. Personal emails will no longer be permitted for instructors or organizational staff to access NC3Certs.
  • Students must use an active school-issued email address that they can access to receive authentication codes. If your students are not provided with a school-issued email address, a personal email is permitted.

If you or your students are currently using an outdated or unofficial email address, you will need to update it before 2FA is enabled, or you may be unable to log in.

  2. Search for the student by name or current email address.
  3. Locate the Email field.
  4. Replace the current address with the student’s active school-issued or personal email.
  5. Save your changes.

Alert Your IT Team to Whitelist NC3Certs Domains

To ensure that 2FA and other system emails from NC3Certs are not blocked or marked as spam, please share the following information with your IT or email security team and ask them to allow/whitelist these domains and addresses:

Email sending domain / address to allow:

  • noreply@nc3certs.com
  • primary sending address for NC3Certs notifications and 2FA codes

Domains to allow / whitelist:

You can suggest that your IT team:

  • Add these to the organization’s email allowlist / safe senders list.
  • Ensure that messages from noreply@nc3certs.com are not filtered to spam or quarantined.
  • If your organization uses strict domain filtering, explicitly permit emails and resources from the domains above so that 2FA codes and login notifications are delivered reliably.

If your IT team needs additional details (IP ranges, specific headers, etc.), they can contact Joseph Smith, Customer Success IT Coordinator, NC3.

Need Help?

  • If you cannot log in, or if you do not see an option to update your email, submit a Help Request.
  • If you manage accounts for others (e.g., Campus Administrators), please ensure all associated users have updated their email addresses and that your IT team has whitelisted the domains above before the 2FA rollout.

Once 2FA is enabled, login codes will be sent to the email address on file. Using an inaccessible or outdated address, or having those emails blocked by your organization’s filters, may prevent you from logging in.
