Great Days Ahead for NCA!

Nazarene Christian Academy is committed to providing the best, most comprehensive, Christ-centered education for your child. As we know all are aware, we are navigating one of the most difficult and uncertain times in any of our lives and, certainly, in the life of the school.

Our school administrator, Mrs. Nancy Shonamon, has done an outstanding job keeping on top of the educational landscape which seems to change daily. She has done this while also serving as Elementary Principal - a full time job in and of itself.

In the upcoming months NCA will also be facing its 10 year accreditation review. This is a vital time when a team of educators comes into the school and dissects every aspect of the facilities, curriculum, faculty, activities, etc. This is another area Mrs. Shonamon has been attempting to keep her hand on, but much preparation is needed.

Considering the uncertainty in the future months and all the responsibilities each area will entail, we have determined it will be advantageous to provide relief for Mrs. Shonamon from the day-to-day supervision of the school to allow her to concentrate on the current COVID 19 crisis, upcoming accreditation, and her duties as Elementary Principal.

With this in mind, and after much prayer and consideration, we have asked Dr. Stan Brooke, an NCA staff member for six years and an educator with a background of more than 35 years as a Christian school administrator - including schools with over 1000 in enrollment - to step in and oversee the day-to-day operation of NCA.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this transition - which should hardly be noticeable by most - please direct them to Dr. Glidden or Pastor Danny
Welcome Dr. Stan Brooke as our new Head of School!

Dr. Stan Brooke has over 35 years experience in private Christian education. He joined the NCA family six years ago as a Bible and speech teacher.  Prior to coming to NCA, Dr. Brooke was the Administrator at Temple Christian Schools in Fort Worth for 17 years. He served as the principal at Midland Baptist School for six years and the principal at Castleberry Baptist Christian Schools for 13 years.  Dr. Brooke has been an instructor at Oklahoma State University as well as USD 465 Winfield, Kansas. He has been the editor of three national magazines as well as served as a Lay Youth Minister.

In addition to Dr. Brooke’s leadership in administration, he has been a coach, scout, and official in football, softball, track, and is a national certified archery instructor. Dr. Brooke writes poetry and has judged poetry competitions at a national level.

Dr. Brooke has served on the Advisory Board of Dallas Baptist University and Arlington Baptist University. He currently is the State Standards Chairman for the Accreditation Commission of the Texas Association of Baptist Schools (ACTABS), where NCA receives accreditation.

Dr. Brooke has attended Crowley College, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma State University, Texas Baptist College, and Louisiana Baptist University. He holds four degrees - AA, BA (Social Studies), MEd, PhD (Education).

Dr. Brooke was married to Patricia for nearly 50 years before her passing. He and Pat have two grown children, Cindy Brooke Edwards residing in Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Joshua Brooke residing in Saginaw, Texas. They have four grandchildren.

Dr. Brooke is loved and respected at NCA. He loves his students and has a strong desire to help them grow academically as well as spiritually.

Dr. Brooke will serve NCA as an interim Head of School for the 2020-2021 school year. He will continue to teach in the classroom during this time as well.
Mrs. Nancy Shonamon – Elementary Principal

Mrs. Nancy Shonamon began her service at NCA as a Fourth Grade Teacher in 2004. After one year at NCA, she moved to Crowley Middle School and taught seventh grade English. She returned to NCA in 2007 to assume the role of Academic Advisor. Nancy has served a double role as NCA Administrator and Elementary Principal since 2017. She has 28 years experience in private and public education.

Mrs. Shonamon’s service as NCA Administrator came at a crucial time in the history of NCA. She has led the way in improving the infrastructure of NCA through policies and procedures. She has navigated the COVID 19 crisis with excellence.  We are indebted to her for her labor of love and sacrifice. Mrs. Shonamon will remain as our Elementary Principal as well as assist Dr. Brooke in the NCA accreditation process and lead in any coronavirus guidelines in the future.

Mrs. Shonamon says:   Serving at NCA has been an incredible blessing. It is an honor to be able to support our Lion Family and walk beside parents in partnership in the education and discipleship of their children. I'm thankful the Lord brought our family to Texas and NCA. I'm looking forward with great anticipation to the days ahead.
Mrs. Angie Valdez Adams – Secondary Principal

Mrs. Angie Valdez Adams has served as our Secondary Principal for the past two years. Mrs. Adams brings over 18 years of experience in both public and private education to NCA. She has served in many capacities, a teacher, curriculum writer, coach for various sports, algebra readiness coach, and secondary district specialist. Mrs. Adams has brought a wonderful perspective to NCA and will continue to serve as the Secondary Principal.

Mrs. Adams says:  As the Secondary principal, I certainly feel very privileged to serve at Nazarene Christian Academy. I get to be part of a ministry that equips students to live a life of service that glorifies God and etern ally impacts the world. What an amazing testimony!
Thank you Mrs. Leah Boice!

Mrs. Leah Boice has been a member of the faculty of NCA for the past 10 years, serving the past three years as our Academic Advisor. Living life with the youth of NCA has been and continues to be very much a part of Mrs. Boice's heartbeat for ministry. Believing that becoming Academic Advisor for the past three years was a part of the Lord's larger picture of ministry and what NCA needed at that time, Mrs. Boice feels released from that role and will be getting back into the classroom. It is in the classroom where Mrs. Boice originally felt called to minister to our youth and we are excited to have her back!
Welcome our New Academic Advisor!

Jennifer Anderson was born and raised in the DFW area and graduated from Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, where she was valedictorian of her senior class. Her college career began at Dallas Baptist University, and she then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend Oral Roberts University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. She also served as a Women’s Chaplain and Dorm Pastor while attending ORU. After returning to Texas, she received her state teaching certifications in Special Education and Classroom Grades 1-8.

Jennifer is also a Certified Behavioral Consultant with the Institute for Motivational Living and loves to help people learn more about how God uniquely created them, and how this affects how they relate to others. As a product of Christian education, she is thankful for the strong foundation this provided her to develop not only academically but also spiritually. It impacted both her personal walk with the Lord, as well as her view of the world and how she relates to it as a follower of Christ.

Jennifer has taught Special Education, second grade, third grade, Middle School English, and Creative Writing. She also worked over nine years with high school students and their families to help them navigate the college admission process. During this time, she hired and managed instructors, provided professional development for area high school counselors, and presented multiple educational workshops to parents and secondary students. She loves helping students plan and reach their academic goals, as well as celebrating with them when those goals have been reached or surpassed.

Jennifer’s daughter, Gracie, has been at NCA since Kindergarten and will be a fourth grader in the fall. They love to travel, watch football, paint, and ride horses together.

Ms. Anderson will be serving grades K-12.
