Leadership from FIFA, U.S. Soccer, NCASA, Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association (ABASA) and Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) are working together to find ways to help restore the JBL Soccer Complex in Asheville, which was destroyed by Hurricane Helene last year.
The joint effort began at the NCASA AGM in January, when ABASA President, Felice Bell, shared a powerful video depicting the extensive damage to the Asheville community's soccer fields. Following the presentation, NCASA leaders reached out to U.S. Soccer President, Cindy Parlow-Cone, initiating a collaborative process that ultimately positioned Asheville as a strong candidate for FIFA’s Field Restoration Fund.
On December 2nd, representatives from FIFA, U.S. Soccer, NCASA, ABYSA, and ABASA met to review the damage and to discuss restoration plans and financial planning. The group also visited the JBL Soccer Complex to see firsthand the meaningful progress already underway to restore the fields.
"We are optimistic the project will meet FIFA’s criteria and receive significant funding to return the complex to its vibrant role in the community," said NCASA Executive Director, Darius Ejlali. The group remains hopeful for good news in the coming months and NCASA looks forward to sharing updates with our North Carolina soccer community as progress continues.
