Newsletter - Fall 2025

Dear Members,

We had an incredibly busy and successful summer! This year, four North Carolina teams proudly competed in the USASA Amateur Cup Final Four, highlighting the growing talent in our state.

Our leagues continue to expand and make a positive impact on the communities we serve. Tournaments like KEDO Nations Cup, Queen City Cup, WSASL Summer Clash, TASL World Cup Games and our first ever Touchline Adult Soccer Camp are just a few of summer's highlights.

We have a lot in store for you this fall, from recreational and competitive leagues to exciting tournaments, including our beloved Celebrate the Tatas event in October, and popular Carolinas Cup in December. There’s plenty to look forward to this season.

Thank you for being a part of NCASA.

The 101st edition of the National Amateur Cup, organized by USASA, culminated with its men's and women's semifinals and finals. Region III North Carolina teams included:

WSASL Summer Clash, New Name. Same Great Fun!

Winston Salem Area Soccer League (WSASL) recently rebranded its long-standing summer tournament as the WSASL Summer Clash, an 8v8 event featuring both competitive and recreational divisions.

This year’s Clash On July 19–20, included 5 competitive teams and 4 recreational teams, with hopes to grow those numbers in 2026. The Wombats took home the competitive title, while City claimed the rec division crown.

The tournament raises funds for the Children’s Cancer Support Program at Atrium Baptist Health. Last year, the event raised $2,500 for the cause. WSASL wishes to thank all of its sponsors and supporters! The regular WSASL Fall season kicks off September 6. Registration is now open.

TASL World Cup Games – A Big Success!

On July 26, Triangle Area Soccer League (TASL) held Men’s O50 World Cup Games (8v8), with 72 players on teams representing USA, Europe/UK, Asia, Latin America, and South Africa/Caribbean.

In a thrilling final, South Africa/Caribbean edged Asia in a shootout. The highlight of the day was seeing players from different teams come together to play and socialize.

The games will be an annual event, with proceeds going to The Bill Hanckel Foundation Fund, created in honor of TASL past president, who passed away unexpectedly in 2019. The fund helps TASL players facing financial hardship by covering part of their club fees each season.

Training for Women Players!

Come build your technique, fitness, and confidence this fall! WWSL is hosting women’s soccer training on Friday nights. Sessions run from September 5th-November 21.

Each 90-minute session will focus on:

-Finishing: improve accuracy, power, and confidence in front of goal

-Ball Control & Dribbling: beat defenders, keep possession under pressure

-First Touch & Passing: master receiving and delivering the ball with precision

-Game Awareness: apply technical skills in small-sided scrimmages

WALKING SOCCER COMES TO WAKE COUNTY

Walking Soccer? Yes, you read that right. It's similar to traditional soccer, but running is forbidden.

Walking Soccer, a non-contact, adaptive sport is played in over 55 countries worldwide! The game was created in 2011 for older adults in the U.K. that wanted to the play the game in a safe format. Today, there are over 2,000 Walking Soccer (Football) clubs and more than 60,000 player participants in the U.K.

The sport is slowly building traction here in the United States.

The rules are simple and designed to emphasize health, safety, and fun. The game is played on small fields with small goals.

The play formats are flexible and may vary from 5v5 to 11v11. The games are played indoors on turf, or hardcourt surfaces; or outdoors on artificial or natural grass.

Players ‘walk’ as fast as they want, as long as “one foot is in contact with the ground at all times.”

Walking Soccer provides a lifelong opportunity to play soccer. Modifying the game from running to walking allows soccer players to continue to play the game at a healthy, safe pace.

Adjustments to the game of soccer, keeps players safe and injury free!

·  No running reduces impact and stress on joints and muscles.

·  The game is suitable for individuals with joint problems, arthritis, or those recovering from injury who want to gradually return to the game.

·  No heading the ball protects our brains from potential concussions.

·  No contact emphasizes skill and strategy over speed and athleticism

·  Promotes fitness, 10K - 12K steps in an hour game

10th Annual Queen City Cup

This year’s Cup was packed with firsts! Teams from the Triad and Wilmington joined for the first time, and both took home division titles. Southbound & Crown claimed their first Heart of Goals Charity win after four years of trying.

We awarded $5,400 in prize money and donated $1,400 to Charlotte’s Time Out Youth, supporting LGBTQ+ youth. Perfect low-80s weather made for a great weekend of soccer, community, giving back, and helping teams kick off their fall season strong!
