Freddie is Thankful!

From Freddie's mom Jennifer:

I wanted to send along a heartfelt note of thanks for our Freddie.

• Thank you to Animal Control for reaching out to NCBCRA when Freddie's time was up.
• Thank you to NCBCRA for agreeing to save Freddie.
• Thank you to NCBCRA for fixing up Freddie's teeth. He wears his new smile proudly!
• Thank you to NCBCRA for placing Freddie with a wonderful foster family.
• Thank you to Bryce & Paul for loving Freddie and providing a safe place for him to heal and learn.
• Thank you to NCBCRA and Bryce & Paul for helping Freddie get clean of giardia and worms. He now has a voracious appetite and uses an eat-slow bowl!

A few things that Freddie is thankful for:

• Bryce & Paul (of course!)
• Doggie Daycare (he LOVES playing with his buddies!)
• Long hikes, walks, and runs - let's go!
• Running and digging on the beach.
• Toys!
• Treats!
• Belly rubs
• Training - obedience, rally, tricks, anything involving more treats!
• Puzzles, kongs, pupsicles
• Outings to coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, wineries. He loves to join us anywhere we go!

Freddie has been with us for 8 months now, and there is no doubt he is our boy. He makes us smile and laugh everyday, and definitely helps to keep us young. We are incredibly grateful for Freddie and for all involved in saving him.

Mika - Therapy Dog

From Mika's mom Michelle:

We adopted Mika (formerly Waffle) in January 2022. She was only nine weeks old and very shy. We began her training with Resolute Dog Training when she was eleven weeks old. During her first year, Mika earned the AKC Good Citizen Test, the AKC Novice Trick Dog title, the AKC Community Canine title, and the AKC Urban Canine title. At just 14 months, she also passed the Therapy Dog Test.

Since then, Mika has volunteered weekly at the Courtyard Assisted Living Center and visited many schools. Additionally, she is part of the Crisis Team for Resolute Dog and has volunteered at several fires and schools that experienced student deaths.

Mika knows over 50 commands, is very empathetic, and has a great sense of humor. She loves the beach, swimming, hiking, playing with sticks, and cuddling.

After losing our previous border collies (due to old age), we never imagined loving a dog as much as we love Mika. She has brought immense joy, laughter, and love into our lives. Every day, we are incredibly grateful to Northern California Border Collie Rescue and Adoptions for trusting us with Mika. She truly is one of the best things that's ever happened to us.

From Teya's new family Randi and Judie:

October 2nd was Teya's (formerly Lucy) three-month anniversary with us and her feline siblings. We ascribe to the saying that for an adopted rescue: it takes three days to decompress, three weeks to learn a routine, and three months to feel at home. Teya would make a great poster canine for that saying!

She has grown very comfortable in her new digs and all of us couldn't be happier with her. She is a delight and epitomizes the spirit of joy from her smile to her kisses to her tail wags. She most assuredly lives up to the meaning of her name: precious. We can only wish that we could embody even half her love for life and exuberance as each day dawns full of new adventures and companionship.

Teya adores one of her squeaky toys and can't wait for us to throw it so she can catch it. Her favorite part of this game is when she gets to run around squeaking her toy-then rolling over and holding it between her paws and chewing on it. We call this the "otter" because it reminds us of an otter rolling over and cracking open an abalone shell. She is also learning the command, "release" to let go of her toy.

Her newest fun is to grab her soft rope toy that we have in the house and run from one end of the house to the other--jump up on the bed--and toss it up in the air herself and then take off again down the hallway. Good thing we have a pretty long runway.

What impresses us most is how she hangs out with her feline siblings. Kai (our Tuxedo) likes to rear up on his back legs and play as though he is going to tap Teya on the nose, but instead chases after her. Kai is also very fond of batting at Teya's swishing tail. Teya doesn't seem to mind, and sometimes Kai ends up getting thwacked in the face for his efforts. All's fair in play!! Kanji (our Maine Coon) adores Teya. He has from day one. He can usually be found wherever Teya is and even waits by the sliding door for when Teya comes back in. They sleep together almost constantly and even touch (hold) paws. See last photo.

Thank you again for believing in us and choosing us to be Teya's forever family. We think she is an angel sent from our previous Border Collie, Timber, who passed away in September of last year. Those 9 months without a canine in our presence were extremely sad and hard; but Teya was worth the wait and the one for us.

Fostering Border Collies

Being a foster saves lives! We cover all medical costs, and provide dog supplies as needed. You can foster as much or as little as it works for you. Even short term vacation fostering would be very helpful. Our fosters are the backbone of our rescue and we could not save these dogs without them. Even if you are just curious about it, lets talk.
