Celebrating 10 Years of Rescue!

In March of 2024, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary.

We are so grateful to the fosters and donors who make all of this possible.

In Honor of Memorial Day

Let us remember all those who courageously gave their lives including military K9s.

Atom - Our very first adoption 10 years ago!

Mary adopted Atom from us in April of 2014. She recently sent in an update on him. Here is her story:

"Ten years ago, after my border collie Anna died, I decided to wait awhile to find another dog. But fortunately, the next day I was looking at the NCBCRA web site and saw Atom. I was still hesitant but after two visits I fell in love with him and adopted him April 8, 2014. The minute he entered our home, he acted as though he had always lived here and he never exhibited any of the issues that were listed on his profile.

He loves to play ball, catch frisbees, and go for rides. He protects my two cats and I often find them sleeping together. I'm so fortunate to have such an affectionate companion and I am grateful to Lew and Marnie for all they do to help dogs find homes."

Foster homes like Lew and Marnie are what makes all of this possible. Please consider becoming a foster.

Conner now Cooper

Update from Cooper's mom:

"Next month we will have had Cooper for 1 year!! Seems impossible it’s been a year already:) He is the most amazing dog!! we absolutely love him💕 He is so well behaved and wonderful around the grandkids and other people!

When we go to the park and throw the ball he is 100% business, but on our walks at the beach he will actually play with other dogs!! The groomer, veterinarian, trainer… well anyone that meets him loves him. He is David’s office mate we call him the office manager, if I am home he is my assistant.

We could not of gotten a better dog. He has become such a big part of our family!! He goes everywhere with us and is such a great traveler!! He loves his toy basket and we love watching him root around for a toy. When we first got him, he had no interest in toys and now every evening he has his toy routine.

He has grown a little more and we got in trouble a little with vet he has to lose 5 lbs. He is food motivated but isn’t obnoxious about it anymore!!

We can’t thank you enough for picking us as his parents we are forever grateful!!! He especially loves our Sunday walk to Starbucks!!"

Medical Needs Dog - Dottie

Three-year-old Dottie was surrendered by her owner to a local veterinary office to be euthanized as he said he could not afford her care. While in a field with her owner, Dottie had been badly kicked by a cow, and suffered an irreparable injury to her left rear leg. Amputation of her leg was the only option. The staff at the vet clinic fell in love with Dottie. They talked Dottie’s owner into relinquishing her into their care and called us to see if we could help. When we heard Dottie’s story and about how sweet she is, we said “yes, we’ll take her and get her the care she needs.” Dottie’s story was about to take an even happier turn, as one of the clinic’s vet techs was so taken by Dottie that she offered to foster her through her surgery, rehab, and adoption. Best news is that Dottie’s surgery was a success; she has completely healed and has found her forever home. We are so grateful to our wonderful supporters, who donate whatever they can, so that we can provide the needed surgeries to save the life of dogs like Dottie.

Dottie's surgery and vet bills came to $2,165.

In 2024 so far, we have spent $17,000 on major medical cases (Heartworm, Parvo, Hip surgery and Dental) and we spent another $11,000 in vet costs for standard vet services like spay/neuter and vaccines. Please consider donating so we can continue to save the lives of dogs in need.

Betty White

Update from Betty's adopter Charlotte:

"Betty is our beautiful shy girl, we are still working on her confidence. She is secretly a world class athlete, the most agile athletic dog I have ever seen.

She remains madly in love with her big derpy boyfriend Oliver. More than two years later and they still play every single day."
