White House Postpones De Minimis Removal for Canada and Mexico Tariffs

President Trump on Sunday, March 2, issued executive orders that postpone for now the removal of de minimis for Canada and Mexico in advance of the planned imposition of 25% tariffs on March 4.

However, the executive orders stated that “Such duty-free de minimis treatment shall cease to be available for such otherwise eligible covered articles upon notification by the Secretary of Commerce to the President that adequate systems are in place to fully and expeditiously process and collect tariff revenue."

As reported by International Trade Today (ITT), the language of these two executive orders is similar to the White House’s Feb. 5 executive order restoring de minimis for China imports.
