Dawn Laurenzano Receives  Outstanding Dyslexia Therapist Innovator Award

At the October 23rd Board meeting, Mrs. Dawn Laurenzano was recognized as the recipient of the Innovator Award to an Outstanding Dyslexia Therapist from the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC). This national award is given to a teacher who demonstrates excellence in the teaching of multisensory structured language and has a passion for helping struggling readers improve. The recipient serves as a role model for other teachers in her approach to teaching and advocacy for struggling readers.

Mrs. Laurenzano is an IDA certified Dyslexia Therapist and provides graduate level training in multisensory reading that enables educators to obtain certification as a teacher of dyslexia. Within the North Caldwell school community, Mrs. Laurenzano has been instrumental in working with her colleagues to develop a multisensory spelling program for students in grades K-3. She also generously gives of her time and expertise to assist her colleagues to identify students who are at risk for reading failure and helps to determine effective strategies, techniques and programs to ensure that struggling readers learn to read.

The District is proud to have Mrs. Laurenzano as a member of our teaching team and congratulate her on this prestigious award.

Gould School's 11th Annual Turkey Trot, Wed. 11/7

Gould School's 11th annual Turkey Trot will be held Wednesday, November 7th. The Turkey Trot combines personal fitness goals with a worthwhile community service project. All students should remember to bring their sneakers to school to participate in the mile run. We are also asking families to donate a frozen turkey or canned goods the same morning during student drop-off. Last year, we donated over 50 turkeys to a local food bank! Thank you, as always, for your support!
Gould School Begins 2018-19 House Program

On October 23rd, Gould School began the Gould House program. The House program is based on the Gould PRIDE character education program. The five character education Houses are: Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. Each House is comprised of three homerooms, one from each grade level, and meets approximately 1-2 times each month. During the program, the students participate in cross-grade activities focusing on the character education themes. Throughout the year, there will also be House competition days where Houses compete against each other to earn "bricks" for their House.

Shown in the picture below on the left, in the House of Respect, students discussed what it means to be polite and show respect to others. In the picture below on the right, students in the House of Positivity worked in pairs to discuss heroes and accompanying traits.
