EmployHER Pittsburgh hosts second Opportunity Fair

EmployHER Pittsburgh continues to empower women in the Pittsburgh region by hosting its second Opportunity Fair.

As a collaboration between Dress For Success Pittsburgh, When She Thrives and New Century Careers, EmployHER Pittsburgh hosted its Spring Opportunity Fair on March 27 at the University of Pittsburgh Community Engagement Center in Homewood.

Over 100 women found potential employment opportunities and resources at this event. Participants were able to work with workforce professionals to create LinkedIn accounts, receive formal headshots with the on-site photographer, participate in mock interviews and more.

Participants also got the chance to connect with on-site hiring partners such as University of Pittsburgh, Amazon, First Commonwealth Bank, and many more organizations.

Thank you to all attendees, partners and vendors. Frequently check EmployHER Pittsburgh's website and social media for updates on the next Opportunity Fair!

NCC’s digitization project topic of April 27 AIM2LEARN webinar

Neil Ashbaugh, NCC president and CEO, has been invited to present a webinar about NCC's digitization project using Rewyndr for the AIM Higher Education Series AIM2LEARN on April 27.

The project, launched last September, built consistent visual procedural content for the Manufacturing 2000 (M2K) curriculum to be engaged through the Rewyndr application on tablets where trainees also can reference instructor and industry knowledge as they complete their assignments.

AIM2LEARN is an education series on topics relevant to the defense industry supply chain to improve competitive advantage and strategies to expand business with the U.S. Department of Defense and the subcontractors that serve them.

New Century Careers is a member of the AIM Higher Consortium, another way that NCC connects regional manufacturers with business opportunities in various industries.

NCC marks Women's History Month

One of the ways New Century Careers commemorated Women's History Month was by having Office Manager Tanika Harris discuss what Women's History Month means to her.

“Women’s History Month is a time when we celebrate all the women who have made significant contributions to American history and to the world today.

In my childhood, I rarely learned about black history, let alone women's history. I am proud to be a black woman born in an era when we had an African American first lady and now a female African American vice president.

My heart is filled with joy when I see young women who enter our program thrive and succeed in manufacturing, which was traditionally a male dominated industry. I believe this proves that women can achieve anything they put their minds to.

It is impossible for history to be written without highlighting the impact of HER Story.”

M2K training spotlight

This month, the February cohort of NCC's MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) program earned their second National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credential. With this credential, they all have clearance to enter the shop floor and begin training on the machines full-time.

A new cohort for M2K training in Pittsburgh is enrolling now and will begin Monday, April 10. By enrolling in this cohort, you can begin your manufacturing career before the end of the year. Spaces are limited, so apply as soon as possible.

Registration for M2K is ongoing at the Eastern Westmoreland CTC site in Latrobe.
