NCC joins consortium to strengthen
region’s defense industry supply chain
The AIM Higher Consortium is a new, wide-ranging program funded by the Department of Defense to strengthen the defense supply chain in the Greater Pittsburgh region of Southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia. AIM Higher is led by Catalyst Connection with over 30 academic, economic development, technology institute, and manufacturing partners from around the region, New Century Careers among them.

A website, www.AimHigherConsortium.org, was launched to inform the public about the program, share defense industry resources, and highlight grants and training opportunities to help participating companies offset project costs.

The program offers support to small and medium-sized manufacturers in the defense industry seeking to expand business and operational capabilities, to strengthen the supply chain, and to create and retain jobs in defense manufacturing sectors.

NTMA Enrollment is open!
Help build a skilled workforce. Improve job satisfaction. Save money.
The Pittsburgh Chapter National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA) has opened enrollment to all interested apprentices for the 2021-2022 school year. The 4-year apprenticeship program is designed to provide related instruction classes to support on-the-job training provided by employers. The curriculum supports several metalworking occupations, such as machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC specialists.

The NTMA offers hands-on training that is incorporated into the classroom instruction hours. This proven apprenticeship program provides a comprehensive curriculum that keeps pace with industry standards and is taught by instructors with industry experience. The program will help to ensure your workers develop the right skills.

Students have the option of attending classes at one of three convenient locations: Central Westmoreland CTC in New Stanton, Northern Westmoreland CTC in New Kensington and New Century Careers' Anselmo Training Innovation Center on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

Apprenticeship programs reduce turnover rates, increase productivity and lower the cost of recruitment. Consider sending your apprentice(s) to the Pittsburgh Chapter NTMA Apprenticeship Program. For more information or to register your employee(s), please contact Liz Blashock at 412-258-6628, via email at blashock@ncsquared.com , or visit www.pghntma.com .

BotsIQ Summer Interns Earn OSHA 10 Certification
This summer, BotsIQ, with support from the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board and Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development, launched a post-secondary internship program. Seven interns are working at 6 companies across the region. Complementing the 6-week internship is a series of professional development workshops, including an opportunity for the students to earn an industry recognized credential. In partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals, BotsIQ interns participated in OSHA General Industry Outreach 10-hour instruction and added the OSHA 10 certification to their resumes.

“BotsIQ is very thankful for industry's awesome support of this new opportunity for students to explore manufacturing careers,” said Michel Conklin, BotsIQ executive director. “Combining the OSHA 10 certification with the real world work experience of an internship provides our students with an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills while strengthening their connections with local employers.”

BotsIQ is already planning for its Summer 2022 Internship Program. For more information, contact Michel Conklin at conklin@botsiqpa.com.
