AIM Higher Consortium event focuses on bringing
more defense manufacturing to the region
The AIM Higher Consortium is a wide-ranging program funded by the Department of Defense (DOD) with the goal of strengthening the defense supply chain in Southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The AIM Higher DOD Supply Chain Virtual Event on Tuesday, May 18, from 9 am – 5 pm, will discuss with real world supply chain gaps and challenges faced by multiple agencies in the DOD. Presentations will cover what these agencies see for both short-term and long-term needs; how small businesses can stand out among larger competitors; and current trends seen by the DOD in advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, robotics, advanced materials and composites. Manufacturers also will have opportunities to make connections with DOD entities.

TRAK open house attracts local manufacturers
for cutting-edge equipment demos
TRAK Machine Tools welcomed more than 35 attendees from 18 companies from across the region to the TRAK Pittsburgh Showroom open house at New Century Careers’ Anselmo Innovation Training Center on April 29. TRAK representatives demonstrated TRAK mills and lathes with ProtoTRAK CNCs for one-off and small lot; TRAK TMC5, the world’s first toolroom machining center; TRAK 2op Compact Machining Center, and 3D printers by 3ntr.
“The robust turnout seems to signal that companies are seeing some light post -COVID and are ready to invest in equipment. Those who attended were engaged and interested in seeing the products in action,” said Anthony Cicero, TRAK Atlantic regional manager.
