Contract winners for statewide Medicaid services are AmeriHealth Caritas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and WellCare. There is also one regional insurer:
Carolina Complete Health
.
The privatized version of Medicaid will mean big changes for 1.6 million of the 2.1 million people on the federal program. In June, Medicaid residents in the two test regions, including the Triangle, will find out which insurers
are providing Medicaid health coverage in their areas. Their coverage will begin in November.
|
|
Five health insurance organizations have been named to share in contracts totaling $6 billion a year to provide health care under a privatized state Medicaid program for low-income, disabled and elderly residents that is set to start providing health care coverage in November of 2019.
DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen said the announcement clears the way for the five insurer groups to set amounts they will pay doctors and hospitals for treating Medicaid patients. The announcement represents the
biggest financial outlay in the history of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, and will change the way the Medicaid program has operated for decades.

Measuring Fidelity to the Integrated Reentry and Employment Strategies (IRES) Framework
|
|
"
While employment is crucial for successful reentry, simply placing someone in a job is not an ultimate solution for reducing recidivism or improving long-term job retention."
This
self-assessment
tool from the National Reentry Resource Center helps reentry practitioners identify opportunities to build the capacity of employment-focused programming and services, so they in turn, can better prepare participants and decrease their likelihood of returning to incarceration.

6 Months After Florence -
Future Still Unknown for many still recovering
|
|
Watch Video to see the Results
From the 2018 hurricane season, both Florence and Michael were retired.
|
|
It's been 6 months since
Hurricane Florence
made landfall, leaving
a disproportionate number of low-income families
in the east homeless and/or stranded in hotels.
The funding that allowed them to stay in those hotels was expected to run out in March. Now What?
The next step for many remains unknown.
These articles highlight how far recovery efforts have come and how much farther they have to go:

More than two-million people are incarcerated in the US. Each year, more than 650,000 of them are released, and while they will need to re-integrate into society, the question remains whether or not society – employers, neighbors, friends, and family – will accept them.
Healing Broken Circles serves the incarcerated through healing, rehabilitation and educational activities.
One inmate who benefited had this to say.
“She looked past the tattoos that proclaimed my rage, past my flippant facade of indifference, and past the three-yard stare one acquires after six years alone in a cell for 23 hours a day. She saw me differently and convinced me, somehow, to do the same.”

H.R. 1695 is a bipartisan effort to reduce poverty within urban, suburban, rural, and tribal communities across the country.
