Holiday Heroes Who Inspire Us

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
― Calvin Coolidge

Heroes are everywhere. Heroes can be the strangers on the street, the friend we sit next to in class who lends us a pencil when we forget, or someone near and dear.
Who are the heroes who have inspired you in your own life?
Read about some of them
here
.
Then, take the time and
tell us about the heroes you know
who have made a difference in the lives of others. After all, isn't that what we do? Speaking of which, 2019 is a
Hall of Fame Year
- what a great opportunity to share the stories of our heroes/she-roes and their contributions. Applications will be coming out in January. Visit the
Hall of Fame webpage
to see previous recipients of this prestigious award.
As the holidays and end of the year approach, we wish to thank "you" and "our heroes" for the countless ways you help to fulfill the Promise of Community Action
daily
in your community and make this world a better place for all.
Merry, Merry!

“Giving back” doesn’t have to mean giving thousands of dollars. You can still donate to the CA Rapid Response relief fund to help those whose Christmas may not be as
merry
this year!

Operation Christmas Boxes
|
|
“This program has had a major impact in demonstrating that someone outside of the immediate family cares about our senior citizens. Sometimes these items are the only Christmas gift that they receive.” ~ Patsy D. Davis

|
Holiday Cheer On the Way for Waynesville Seniors
|
Waynesville - Mountain Projects, Inc. will make Christmas "a little Brighter" for local seniors by spearheading the “Operation Christmas Boxes” drive, administered by their Senior Resource Center with the support of local merchants.
Patsy Davis, executive director of Mountain Projects, said the annual effort focusing on the elderly provides gifts to many who are barely getting by.
The collection project, which distributed 345 boxes last year, will wrap up on Saturday, Dec. 15th during the Jingle Mingle downtown celebration with children dressed as elves who will pull wagons to participating merchant locations to pick up items collected.
