Overview of the Relations Director position:
The Relations Director of the North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce is the key representative in the business community and works to promote and strengthen the chamber’s brand, activities and overall image by maintaining and enhancing lines of communications between organization and its members and the organization and the towns represented under our charter.
The Relations Director is responsible for assisting with the organizing of chamber functions and events, establishing and maintaining communications and actively promoting the organization to sustain and grow membership. The position reports to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and holds a working relationship with all directors, committee chairs and Operations Director.
Responsibilities of the Relationship Director:
• Assist with developing and executing an effective program of membership development and membership services
• Track, document and report on communications with membership, perspective members, town liaisons and other pertinent and relevant contacts.
• Serve as the spokesperson for the chamber as the Executive Committee directs.
• Assist in establishing a relationship with town officials to stay up-to-date on town activities and educate BOD/ membership on these activities
• Assist in the development and creation of press releases, marketing materials, organizational and/or member announcements and the promotion of event participation.
• Participate on the Membership/Ambassador Committee to help enhance existing and new member outreach.
• Participate on the Home Show committee to help enhance participation and sponsorships as well as pursue new member leads.
• Participate on the Action Committee to maintain awareness of new chamber business and report on retention and growth progress. Action Committee meets weekly, on Tuesday at four pm unless otherwise stated and scheduled.
• Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and report on all aspects and progress of Relation’s Director responsibilities.
• Assist the Operations Director in the creation of monthly e-newsletter by gathering news from the chamber membership, the community and the towns.
• Works with Operational Director to establish and maintain a relationship with media outlets to ensure press coverage.
• Assists the Operations Director and Executive Committee with major chamber events, such as Business Shows, Networking Events, Golf Tournaments, etc.
Relations Director Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or other relevant experience.
• Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
• Experience and knowledge of basic Microsoft Office programs or compatible software.
• Marketing Research and Event Coordination Experience.
• Experience working with non-profits.
• Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience.
• Project Management Skills.
• Sales Experience
• Organizational Skills
• Public Speaking
• Understanding the nuances of the communities we serve
• Reliable transportation
• Access to electronic communications and personal computer
Compensation and Salary Administration:
• Part time, at will employee with base salary established upon 18 to 20 hours weekly.
• Hours above 20 within a work week must be approved prior to by the Director of Operations or member of the Executive Board and will be compensated at the below hourly rate.
• Auto stipend of twenty five dollars weekly to be included in distributions.
• Salary to be administered by weekly.
• Commissions to be paid out quarterly.
• Cell phone and organization email to be provided.
Base Salary: $22,592.00 yearly
Hourly Rate above 20 hours per week: $22.00
Commission Structure:
• 5% all member renewal dues
• 25% all new member dues
• 10% all new corporate partnership dues
All terms to be specified in Relation’s Director Employment Agreement with The North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and are subject to final negotiation and acceptance.
