NCCRS Evaluates Courses Offered by New
Member, the New York City Department of Correction

NCCRS conducted a successful evaluation of training courses offered by a new member organization, the New York City Department of Correction, in July at their Correction Academy in Middle Village, New York.

Facilitated by NCCRS Director Lisa Mahoney (fourth from left), our evaluation team of Maria (Maki) Haberfeld, PhD (third from left), R. Bruce McBride, EdD (fifth from right), and Raymond Philo, MPA (fourth from right), evaluated five training offerings, including an instructor development course, and correction officer recruit training program.

"We sincerely appreciate Deputy Commissioner John Ward and the entire team at the New York City Department of Correction for hosting the evaluation. Their commitment to providing high-quality training for their workforce was on full display," stated Lisa. "We are pleased to welcome the Department aboard as a new NCCRS member organization and look forward to supporting their efforts to recognize learning through the college credit recommendation process."

AHRC of New York City Recognized Among
New York's Top Healthcare Organizations

NCCRS congratulates AHRC of New York City, a member organization since 2007, on being recognized on City & State New York's 2026 Top Healthcare Organizations list. The annual recognition highlights organizations making a meaningful impact on healthcare and human services throughout New York State.

The recognition reflects the organization's longstanding commitment to expanding opportunities and improving the quality of life of the people and families it serves.

NCCRS Evaluator John Gaal Honored
with Catalyst of Change Award

Longtime NCCRS evaluator John Gaal, EdD, CHW-C, CPS, CWP, LAP-C (center), was recently honored with the first Catalyst of Change Award from the St. Louis Building Trades Wellness Coalition. The award recognizes John’s persistence and dedication in addressing suicide and overdose in the construction industry.

In recognition of his lasting impact, the award will be presented moving forward as the Dr. John Gaal Catalyst of Change Award, honoring others who demonstrate the same commitment to creating positive change. NCCRS is proud to work with John, and pleased to celebrate his well-deserved honor.

NCCRS Participates in Sheet Metal
Industry Institutes Conference

NCCRS was pleased to participate as an exhibitor at the Sheet Metal Industry Institutes (SMII) Conference in Atlanta in September, where we had the opportunity to interact with professionals from across the skilled trades and highlight the role of college credit recommendations in recognizing learning gained through apprenticeship training programs.

NCCRS's marketing and evaluation associate Phil Kahn (left), caught up with John Jackson, Administrator of the International Training Institute for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Industry (ITI), at the conference. ITI, an NCCRS member organization since 2015, was one of three organizations behind the event, along with the National Energy Management Institute (NEMI), and the Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT).

"The conference provided us an excellent opportunity to meet with industry professionals and share information about NCCRS," said Phil. "We are always interested in connecting with organizations that offer apprenticeship programs, which are becoming an increasingly important pathway for individuals to pursue higher education opportunities.”
