NCEC School Spotlight

Turtle Mountain Community Schools
The administrators from the Turtle Mountain Community Schools (Turtle Mountain Elementary, Middle and High School; Ojibwa and Dunseith Day) have been meeting once a month to focus on aligning school improvement work across the five schools.
Because the schools are governed by both federal (BIE) and state (ND) accreditation requirements, the reporting can be cumbersome, duplicative and time consuming. The group is working to streamline that process.

Dr. Michelle Thomas (district superintendent), Mr. Casey Sovo (BIE superintendent), Dr. Kellie Hall (Education Program Specialist), and Mrs. Shelly Hoerer (NCEC Professional Development Director) will be presenting their findings at the Cognia Leading the Way conference on February 23rd.

Virtual STEM Career Day Month
NCEC in partnership with Dakota College at Bottineau and the ND STEM Network will host the annual STEM Career Day Month virtually from March 15-April 1.

Schools will be provided materials for hands-on activities thanks to a grant through the ND STEM Network. Professionals from a variety of industries will share their experiences and what it takes to be in that career, then walk students through the activity via a recorded demonstration. The activities will be geared for 8th and 9th grades.

Contact Aimee to receive registration information.
WorkKeys Testing
The WorkKeys test qualifies students for the state scholarship when they score 5s on all three tests and meet all other scholarship requirements.

Be sure to allow time for students to retest before graduation if needed.

NCEC schools needing testing should contact Aimee or Mandy to schedule your date.
