St. John Holds 20th Annual Reading Fair
The St. John School has been hosting an annual Reading Fair since 2001. This gathering brings students, parents, teachers, and community members together to promote summer reading and to celebrate the end of the school year.

It is also a way for organizations that serve the community's families to be able to connect with them. Social Service Agencies, Public Health Services, Extension Services, and Colleges are just a few of the agencies that were represented.

Staff members also set up booths with games that reflect the theme of the fair. This year’s theme was “Carnival” and vendors were encouraged to have games and food that reflected a circus, or fair midway and food court.

The staples of the fair are the wagon rides and the petting zoo; and burgers and hotdogs on the grill are always a hit.

This year’s event had an all-time-high attendance of over 450 people.

Congratulations, St. John Public School, on your successful end-of-year reading celebration!

If you have an exciting event or activity at your school, we'd love to share it in the NCEC newsletter! Email Aimee your story.

Water Festival 2021 A Success!
After an abrupt hiatus in 2020, NCEC and Dakota College at Bottineau were excited to be able to host an in-person event this past May 17 & 18.

The event was scaled down to allow for smaller group sizes and social distancing of school groups enabling over 400 students from 8 schools to attend. Nine sessions were facilitated by12 presenters and 11 volunteers. Session topics included Water Quality--Ask the Bugs, Is there a Party in My Pond?, Water Olympics, Pucker Effect, Aquaponics, The Trees Role in the Importance of Water, Watershed Model, Aqua Bodies, and a Soil Tunnel tour.

The annual event teaches 5th and 6th graders about water science, conservation, and best management practices by demonstrating how water interacts with humans and the natural environment within North Dakota’s watersheds.

Student survey results will be shared on the Data Reports page of the NCEC website.
