Welcome to the inaugural issue of the NCEED newsletter! I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with you, sharing experiences and delving into the pressing questions our research community is addressing.
A recent EdWeek article suggests that a person’s name may impact their likelihood of being selected for a superintendency. This is a compelling study considering the statistics above.
While Black and Brown children stand on the shoulders of generations of progress, public schools remain deeply segregated, and opportunity gaps endure. At NCEED, we’re tackling these challenges head-on—partnering across Maryland and the nation to address the root causes of educational disparities through our six-pillar framework.
Under the direction of grantee Child First Authority, Inc. (CFA), the ENOUGH grant partners, including NCEED, met on February 4, 2025 at Dorothy Height Elementary School in west Baltimore to begin planning for community engagement.
NCEED’s Young Scholars Day is scheduled for Monday, April 7. The event is for elementary and middle school students and involves an Academic Pep Rally, College Fair, campus tours, and lunch.
NCEED is hosting a reception at the annual gathering of the American Educational Research Association in Denver, CO. This year's theme is "Research, Remedy and Repair: Toward Just Education Renewal."

The Battle of the Books (BoB) is a voluntary reading incentive program for students. For our version of BoB, we will host two hundred students in grades 4 and 5 who attend Baltimore City Public Schools.
