NCEFT Hoof Beats Newsletter
HORSES, HOPE & HEALING ABOUND
Letter from Cherie Hammer,
NCEFT Development Director
Our newsletters are always exciting opportunities to reflect and report on all the happenings at NCEFT. This issue is no different, bursting with news and events about everything from the Spring Fling Riding Showcase and Volunteer Appreciation to new staff members and NCEFT being highlighted in a national video by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Every day we come to work, NCEFT’s staff, horses, and volunteers stand ready and eager to enrich the lives of people facing disabilities or challenges using the healing power of horses. Thank you for believing in our mission and supporting NCEFT. You make a difference that betters our small corner of the world, and, for that, we are grateful.
Cherie Hammer, NCEFT Development Director

NCEFT IN DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS VIDEO
NCEFT Featured in Profile of Adaptive Riding for Veteran Clients
Recently, NCEFT was honored to be part of a national video campaign by the Department of Veterans Affairs. To celebrate the VA's 75th anniversary, they produced 75 videos highlighting 75 different ways to help improve veterans' health.

The VA chose NCEFT to highlight equine-assisted programs and adaptive riding. We highly recommend you watch the video, which features one of our veteran clients and Matt Gridley, NCEFT’s Adaptive Riding instructor.

See first-hand just how profound an impact NCEFT has on the lives of veterans and first responders.

Calling all volunteers - join us in celebrating you! National Volunteer Appreciation week is April 17-23. Did you know last year over 60 volunteers served nearly 1,700 hours?!

Save the date for NCEFT’s 2022 Volunteer Appreciation Event, Thursday April 21, with more details to come.
Volunteers are central to our organization, and without their support, we could not sustain our mission. Interested in joining our volunteer corps? Go to our website for more information and complete your volunteer application today!
EHV-1 VIRUS UPDATE
NCEFT Taking Precautions to Protect our Herd

In California, there is an outbreak of EHV-1, a contagious, very serious, and potentially fatal equine disease. Cases have emerged locally and in other parts of the state. Like other horse facilities in the area, NCEFT is proactively isolating our horses and not allowing any horses to come and go from our property.

EHV-1 is not transmissible to humans. However, if a person is near an affected horse, they may carry the disease on clothing, footwear, and other surfaces. If possible, please do not visit other horse facilities if you are coming to NCEFT. If you do so, please wash hands thoroughly, and wash, disinfect, or change clothing and footwear before coming to NCEFT.

Thank you for your help in keeping our horses and others safe.
