This month, OELA is promoting languages as one of the many facets of diversity in our society. The United States embraces great linguistic diversity with over 350 languages spoken in homes around the country, including several languages, such as Creole languages and American Sign Language, that emerged in the U.S. Such language diversity contributes to the rich cultural landscape of the country and is becoming increasingly valued by the U.S. educational system.
