An Important Message for NC Health Benefit Representatives
April 2019
COBRA Administration for Dental and Vision

Starting May 1 the COBRA administration for NCFlex Dental and Vision plans will be handled by Benefitfocus. Previously it was handled by the vendors' (MetLife and EyeMed) third party administration. Benefitfocus has started sending notifications to members currently on COBRA as they are loaded into the enrollment platform, and to those newly separated.

This change in administration is only for separated employees or those no longer eligible for the NCFlex dental and/or vision plans, and will not include those employees on leave of absence. The leave of absence process remains the same.

Employees with questions about their COBRA benefits with either of these plans, may call COBRA Connect at (855)893-0011.
Expanded Guide Orders

We recently filled many orders for the expanded version of our 2019 NCFlex Benefits Guide. For anyone who hasn't ordered or would like additional guides, visit the Correction Enterprises OSHR site , enter "flex" as the password and choose to order either the Enrollment Guide (green, shorter version) or Benefits Guide (purple, expanded version). Visit www.ncflex.org to view the guides in electronic format.
Group Term Life - Effective Date for Birth

Due to changes with Voya Group Term Life effective January 1 ( see February newsletter ), employees who use the life event "birth" will now see the effective date as the first month of the child’s birth date instead of the first of the month following the date of birth.
As a reminder, employees have 30 days from the date of their life event to make a change to their benefits. This can be done in the enrollment platform or by calling 1-855-859-0966.

May - National Skin Cancer Prevention Month

With the sunshine and time outdoors increasing, it’s important to protect our skin from overexposure to the sun. The most preventable risk factor for all types of cancers, including melanoma, is exposure to the sun.

During the month of May, National Skin Cancer Prevention Month, look at information found here from the American Academy of Dermatology to learn how to spot and prevent skin cancer. They also have guides on how to conduct a self-exam of possible trouble spots.

Don't forget you can use your Health Care FSA to pay for sunscreen SPF 15+ and bug spray in stores and at fsastore.com .
