Dual Enrollments in NCFlex Plans

As noted in the NCFlex Guides, employees and their dependents cannot be double covered on any of the NCFlex plans. Although some employees and/or their dependents may be dually enrolled by mistake, double coverage is not allowed and we are in the process of correcting these.

Cleanup of these dual enrollments has begun with the Accident plan. Last week letters were sent out to all employees with dual coverage in the Accident plan (view the letter HERE ). This includes spouses enrolled on their own and each other's plans, both spouses covering children on their plans, or even both spouses covering the whole family. Options were given for correcting this, and the phone number for Benefitfocus was provided. Employees must call Benefitfocus by March 31 or a decision will be made for them (as noted on the letter).

To prevent future dual enrollments in the Accident plan, an update has been made in the eBenefits platform.

Going forward, efforts are being made to also correct dual enrollments in the AD&D and Group Term Life plans. More details to come.

Spring HBR Training

Beginning in April we will hold HBR training across NC. The training will focus on administrative topics such as:

  • Benefits in conjunction with Military Leave
  • Changes in Excise and Cadillac taxes and how this could impact NCFlex
  • Employee survey results about Open Enrollment

Look for an HBR alert expected to come out next week with dates, locations, and registration links.
2020 Benefits Summary

The new Benefits Summary is now available on ncflex.org. Once you scroll down and click "Employee Benefits Summary", you will see both the 2020 and the 2019 version. This publication is a collaborative effort among the groups whose benefits are mentioned in the booklet.

Once these summaries are available for order, we will send out an HBR notification via email.

Please note: Universities have their own publication featuring benefits offered, which can be found at http://tinyurl.com/uncbenefitssummary (noted on the back of NCFlex's summary).
Disability Effective Date for New Hires

For employing units offering the NCFlex Disability Plan (non-Universities and affiliates) please note: the effective date of this plan for new hires is different than other NCFlex plans. Instead of the effective date being the first of the month after an employee's start date, it will be the first of the month after an employee enrolls in the plan.

Example: An employee's start date is 2-23-2020, but the employee doesn't enroll until 3-10-2020, the effective date of the Disability plan (if the employee enrolls) would be 4-1-2020.
