An Important Message for NC Health Benefit Representatives
July 2019
Preparing for Annual Enrollment

With fall approaching, we want to provide updates on NCFlex communication and training opportunities.

Guides
We are in the process of updating the Enrollment Guide, enhancing the information provided. We're doing this to address mixed feedback from both HBRs and employees. Some said the condensed guide was too short, while others like the smaller version, commenting it was easier to understand. This guide will also be available in Spanish (electronically and in print).

We will provide the guide in two formats: The longer benefits guide will be available in smaller quantities, to be used primarily by HBRs to help employees with benefit questions. The shorter enrollment guide is for your employees.

A disability booklet separate from the guides will be available for employees eligible for the new disability product (non-university employees).

The guides will be posted online when final. We will follow up soon regarding ordering guides and other information from the NCFlex team.

Train the Trainer
The NCFlex team will be traveling around the state in September to provide benefit updates to HBRs. We will collaborate with the State Health Plan, whose representatives also will be providing updates. Registration details will follow soon from both the State Health Plan and NCFlex.

What's new for 2020
Program updates will be discussed during Train the Trainer sessions and also communicated online via the NCFlex Annual Enrollment webpage, including:

  • Health Care FSA - contribution amount increases to $2,700 per plan year
  • Dental - addition of new Classic Option with similar benefits to High Option but with lower annual max and lower rates. High Option and Low Option rates increasing.
  • New Disability product for non-university employees
Introduction to New Disability Plan

Earlier this month we announced that starting Jan. 1, 2020 NCFlex would be offering a new disability product. Training sessions will be offered in August to introduce this new plan and to meet the vendor, The Standard. Select Disability Training Sessions to find available sessions, including a new Webex date.
Training for New HBRs

Registration now on the HBR portion of the NCFlex website for quarterly NCFlex training for those new to NCFlex or who would like a refresher. The next trainings are scheduled for late August.
Tips on Safe Travel

Summer months bring travel, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has great tips for helping you stay safe and healthy on the go.

If you're traveling outside the United States, visit your primary care physician before departing. Don't forget your Flexible Spending Account may be used for doctor copays. Planning ahead for possible illnesses and injuries during your trip may be the best travel plans that you make.

Finally, don’t forget your NCFlex AD&D coverage includes emergency travel services.
