An Important Message for NC Health Benefit Representatives
March 2022
DDCFSA QLE Form
Due to the recent requirement for life event documentation on NCFlex benefit changes, we have heard feedback on the Day Care Change life event and documentation. We understand it may not always be possible for employees to obtain documentation when their day care needs change.

Therefore, we have created the DDCFSA QLE form, which is linked on our NCFlex Required Documentation for Qualifying Life Events resource in the Day Care change section. This form can be used by employees in place of documentation from the day care provider to validate changes to their DDCFSA. Please note, there should still be a valid event to justify the change.

Please share with your employees as needed and email [email protected] with any questions.
2022 Benefits Summary
The 2022 Benefits Summary is now available on ncflex.org. Once you scroll down and click "Employee Benefits Summary," you will see both the 2022 and the 2021 versions.

This publication features not only the NCFlex benefits, but other benefits for which many state employees may be eligible. It's a great tool for potential recruits and new hires.

Please note: Universities have their own publication featuring benefits offered, which can be found at http://tinyurl.com/uncsummarybenefits (noted on the back of NCFlex's summary).
Employees on LOA and NCFlex Premiums

As a reminder, if you have an employee who has not been separated from employment, but is on a leave of absence (LOA) and benefit premiums are not being payroll deducted (for universities, premiums are not being collected by the HR office), please share with your employees how to pay premiums while out on LOA.

Also, before sharing with your employees how to pay these premiums, be sure their benefits are cancelled in the enrollment system so that the vendors are aware of why they are receiving payments. Cancellation of benefits not being paid should be done ASAP, to avoid retro cancellations through exceptions which can cause reversal of claims.

Employees have a choice whether to keep their NCFlex benefits while on leave of absence. Whether they pay while on LOA or not, they can re-enroll when/if they are reinstated from an LOA. The HCFSA is the only benefit the employee MUST re-enroll in. The others are a choice, but depending on if premiums were paid while out, EOI may be required.

You can find information on this topic in our Admin Manual starting on page 14. Reach out to us at [email protected] if you have questions.
Updating Addresses

Please remind employees to keep addresses up to date in your HR/Payroll system. For BEACON employees, please remind employees that if they have a mailing address, this overrides their permanent address.

NCFlex vendors rely on these addresses to contact participants when needed about claims, updates, and more.
