NCFlex Open Enrollment: October 1331, 2025

Open Enrollment for the 2026 plan year is almost here! Review plan changes, reminders, and helpful information for decision making to prepare.

Please help spread the word by sharing Open Enrollment information with your employees. Encourage them to attend an Open Enrollment online benefits meeting where they can submit questions and receive answers live from an NCFlex representative.

NCFlex HBR Train the Trainer Recording

If you missed our recent HBR/UBA Train the Trainer in-person or online events, you can find recordings and slides on the HBR portion of our webpage. Please note there are separate recordings for university and non-university staff.

New Hires During Open Enrollment

New hires with a benefits enrollment window that falls during Open Enrollment through December (for Dec. 1 benefits) will have to complete two enrollments.

They'll need to enroll as a new hire for benefits for the remainder of 2025 and will need to complete enrollment for the 2026 plan year.

A few important details to share with these employees:

  • FSA amounts chosen for 2025 will be divided evenly over the remaining pay periods. Employees should consider what they can afford and what they can spend by Dec. 31, so that money is not lost. Up to $640 can be rolled into 2026. Some employees make the mistake of choosing a large amount for this plan year, when intending to choose it for the next plan year.
  • The NCFlex Group Term Life Plan* has a guaranteed issue amount for new hires of up to $200k for employees and $50k for a spouse. If an employee waives this plan as a new hire, they only have a guaranteed issue amount during Open Enrollment of $20k for an employee and $20k for a spouse.
  • The NCFlex Disability Plan* requires no evidence of insurability (EOI) or medical questions if an employee enrolls as a new hire. However, if the employee waives this plan as a new hire and enrolls during their Open Enrollment window, EOI will be required.

*Non-University employees only.

Open Enrollment Resources

To help provide details to your employees about the NCFlex benefits, please share our online guides, including versions in Spanish. You can also refer employees to rate sheets and the webpage for each plan where they can find certificates, claim forms, and other details.

Below you will find a printable flyer that can be posted around employee locations, as you see fit. There is a separate flyer for university employees, which includes additional details on the two enrollment systems.

Thank you for helping us encourage state employees to update their benefits!
