EyeMed's New "Know Before You Go" Tool

EyeMed has introduced a new transparency tool to help you estimate potential out-of-pocket costs before going to the eye doctor. Log into your EyeMed account either from www.eyemedvisioncare.com/ncflex or by clicking EyeMed in your eBenefits portal* (link on the left of the main page).

Once you are logged in to your EyeMed account click the "Know Before You Go" tab at the top to the right. You will be guided through questions about what type of exam and/or materials you expect to have in an upcoming visit. In the end you will be given an estimated out-of-pocket cost (if any). You can also search for providers in your area.

Have questions? Call EyeMed's customer service at 1-866-248-1939.

Dual Enrollment in NCFlex Plans

Although both you and your spouse or you and your dependent child may both be eligible for NCFlex plans, you cannot be covered twice under any plan.

Dual enrollment in a plan is possible, however, when it comes to benefits paying out, they can only be paid out under one plan. Therefore, having coverage under the same plan twice is like throwing money away.

For example, you may have enrolled in the Group Term Life coverage for yourself and also added spouse coverage for $50,000. If your spouse is also a state employee, enrolled in individual Group Term Life coverage for $200,000, then your spouse is dually enrolled. If your spouse were to pass away, only one benefit is payable, not both. However, you are paying a premium for both plans.

Not sure if you are dually enrolled? Log into eBenefits* to check your enrollment and have your spouse and/or child do this as well to compare. If you find you, your spouse, or your child(ren) may be double covered, contact Benefitfocus at 1-855-859-0966.
