Dual Enrollment in NCFlex Plans
Although both you and your spouse or you and your dependent child may both be eligible for NCFlex plans, you cannot be covered twice under any plan.
Dual enrollment in a plan is possible, however, when it comes to benefits paying out, they can only be paid out under one plan. Therefore, having coverage under the same plan twice is like throwing money away.
For example, you may have enrolled in the Group Term Life coverage for yourself and also added spouse coverage for $50,000. If your spouse is also a state employee, enrolled in individual Group Term Life coverage for $200,000, then your spouse is dually enrolled. If your spouse were to pass away, only one benefit is payable, not both. However, you are paying a premium for both plans.
