Action Alert! Support Abortion Access & Abortion Provider's Appreciation Day
Friday, March 10
| |
|
Millions of Americans do not have access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion. And more threats against women and people who can be pregnant crop up each day.
A medication abortion case in the Northern District of Texas could ban one of the drugs used in medication abortion, the most common form of abortion. Be sure to register here for NCJW’s virtual briefing. The decision could impact every state in the nation — including in states where abortion is currently protected. We’ll hold our briefing within a few days after the decision.
Below find our top three actions you can take immediately to make a difference and help expand abortion access.
| | |
|
|
While we await the ruling, the Food and Drug Administration could and should ease its remaining restrictions on medication abortion — removing obstacles and facilitating access to this safe and effective option. Let them know there’s no time to delay!
| | |
|
|
NCJW’s Jewish Fund for Abortion Access supports our response to the ever-changing landscape, and helps us nimbly and flexibly address urgent needs — like the case in Texas.
Give generously today to help NCJW continue our important efforts.
| |
|
Additionally, Abortion Care Provider Appreciation Day is coming up on March 10. On March 10, 1993, Dr. David Gunn was murdered by a white supremacist anti-abortion extremist. As a way to honor the life and work of Dr. Gunn and all of the courageous, compassionate people who provide abortion care, March 10 became the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers (beginning in 1996).
Show your local abortion providers some love for their dedication, compassion, resilience, and courage using print-at-home postcards.

HIAS Refugee Shabbat
Friday, March 10, 7 pm
Temple Israel
| |
|
Shabbat Services in person or on Livestream at Facebook Live. Following services, hear from Joe Goldman from HIAS, a representative from JLB/JFCS; and Kate Sachnoff as a member of a local Welcome Circle for Ukrainian Refugees. Gail Levy from NCJW’s Welcome Circle will moderate a question and answer section with the Afghan ladies sponsored by the Section. Ukrainian refugees will speak as well.
Refugee Shabbat is a moment to dedicate a Shabbat experience to refugees and asylum seekers. The fastest-growing European refugee crisis since World War II is still ongoing. People seeking asylum are being turned away at borders around the world. And this year, for the first time ever, the total number of displaced persons globally is over 100 million. This is a critical moment for all of us to reaffirm and redouble our support for refugees and asylum seekers.

GOTV for the Wisconsin Supreme Court Election
Tuesday, February 21, 2023
| |
|
Personal letters and postcards have been proven to boost voter turnout! NCJW Greater Long Beach & West Orange County is making Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts as easy as picking up a pen.
The WI Supreme Court could issue rulings on everything from abortion access to the fairness of Wisconsin’s electoral maps and election policies—decisions that will impact the rights of Wisconsinites and state and national elections for years to come.
You can write letters with Vote Forward. A nonpartisan letter writing campaign is underway, with a goal to write letters to 500,000 voters and mail them on March 28. If you already have an account, log on at https://votefwd.org/ncjwca. Then select a “social” campaign.
You can also write postcards for Reclaim Our Vote. We are writing to Black registered voters in Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. Postcards will be mailed between March 14th and March 24th.
Reach out to Deb Lelchuk at advocacy@ncjwlongbeach.org if you would like to write postcards or if you’d prefer to write letters, but don’t have a Vote Forward account.

Celebrate solidarity, support CLUE, and join us for Architects of Justice — an inspiring evening full of stories of hope, faith, persistence, and victory in the struggle to create an economy that offers dignity and freedom for all.
We’ll celebrate leaders working in service of a more just and equitable society including:
-
Chispa OC, who helped tip the scales of justice and establish Santa Ana’s Police Oversight Commission; and
-
the registered nurses and healthcare professionals of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital who persisted in a months long struggle winning wages and protections that will improve worker retention and patient care at the same time.
Every gift you make helps to advocate for a just economy that works for all and protects those most vulnerable: low-wage workers.
All donations made are charitable contributions and benefit CLUE. www.cluejustice.org/aoj2023.
