Class Observation and Tour
at MOMS OC + Lunch at Zov’s
Wednesday, May 31, Meet at 9 am for Carpool
| |
|
Join us for a visit to MOMS Orange County, the largest agency providing services to multi-ethnic underserved pregnant and parenting women in OC. MOMS is dedicated to newborn and pregnancy health. Located in Santa Ana, MOMS provides Mommy and Me classes (we’ll observe one!), education on childbirth, breastfeeding, and strong baby development. They are on the front lines of fighting the terrible statistics of high infant and mother mortality in minority women! Our own member Sadie Sacks will give us a tour, and then we’ll go to lunch. Check out what volunteer activities you might like to do!
Carpool from Sadie’s at 9 am (address will be shared after registration). Class observation (10 am) for a short while, a tour of the facility, and then lunch at Zov’s, a Mediterranean restaurant in Tustin.
Please RSVP by Friday, May 26th to communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org.
No fee for this excursion, just the cost of your lunch.

Action Alert: Urge Congress to Pass Bills to Support Women, Children, and Families
|
You called, you wrote, and you met with your lawmakers. Well, they're listening!
Just this week, three bills were introduced in Congress that have major potential to support the health, stability, and success of women, children, and families:

|
|
With attacks on abortion access increasing, we need urgent action to strengthen digital privacy.
The My Body, My Data Act would create a new national standard to protect personal reproductive health data.

Jews for Abortions Access Campaign
|
Medication abortion is safe and
effective, and still available
On Friday, April 21, the US Supreme Court issued an unsigned opinion allowing full access to mifepristone as the Texas case continues through the appeals process. This is a win for abortion access! But, our work is not done: there will be many twists and turns along the way, and expect the Court to take up the case in its new term beginning on October 2, with a likely decision in June 2024. For now, follow the latest as we keep you up to date with what’s happening in the federal courts.
Keep up your activism in the following ways:
-
Urge the Food and Drug Administration to remove the remaining unnecessary restrictions to accessing medication abortion.
-
Take the Jewish communal pledge to protect and expand abortion access (individuals and organizations can both pledge.)

Tell Congress to Vote on the
Assault Weapons Ban NOW
| |
|
Congress must do its job and ban assault weapons. As mass shootings are becoming normalized, we are growing numb to civilians' continued use of assault weapons in the spaces we inhabit every day. One out of every four guns being manufactured right now is an AR-15, and the gun industry is getting richer every day.
Demand that Congress take at least this small step to ban assault weapons and stop giving in to the gun industry. Call your Members of Congress and tell them to vote on the assault weapons ban NOW. The congressional switchboard will connect you to any member:
Call 202-224-3121, today and every day, until the vote is taken.

Getting to Know
Long Beach City Council Members
| |
|
Do you personally know your City Council member?
If so, would you be willing to meet him/her and introduce NCJW to them? We'd like to explain our priority issues and our interest in improving the lives of women and children.
Please click here to let the Advocacy Committee know which Council Member you have a relationship with.
Ideally, we want 2-3 of our members to visit each council member in the coming year to discuss local issues such as:
- Creation of a Women's Commission
- Homeless and Housing Issues
- Senior Domestic Violence
- Reproductive Rights
- Human Trafficking
