Advocacy Updates

Protect our Healthcare

Recently, Congressional Budget Office (CBO) finally released its analysis of the devastating American Health Care Act (AHCA) that passed the House earlier this month. According to the non-partisan report, 14 million people would lose their healthcare within a year and millions more would follow over the next decade. Making a bad situation much worse, the Administration’s budget proposal cuts Medicaid funding at even higher rates than those proposed in the AHCA, putting 1 in 5 women at incredible risk. Visit https://www.cbo.gov/publication/52752 for the CBO analysis.

Global Gag Rule

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) strongly opposes the Administration's efforts to eliminate funding for international family planning services. The global gag rule, which denies U.S. family planning aid to organizations that even counsel the people they serve about abortion. President Obama rescinded the global gag rule in 2009. Last month, the president announced a vast expansion of the global gag rule which will cause millions of women to lose access to family planning tools and information—and many women and children will lose access to health care altogether. Visit http://bit.ly/2lXcd7P for more information on the impact of the expanded global gag rule.

FY2018 Federal Budget

The administration’s proposed federal budget represents one of the worst attempts in recent history to gut the budget for domestic spending in favor of further defense spending and tax cuts for the wealthy. The America First approach puts American women, children, and families last. Cuts are made to Medicaid, the National Institutes of Health, Headstart, Pell grants, student loans, SNAP, school lunches, Meals on Wheels , and programs to help people with disabilities, job training, domestic violence programs, anti-discrimination enforcement, and housing assistance. It is difficult to find an area of the budget that helps ordinary hard working American families that is not subject to the budget axe. Visit http://wapo.st/2s3qDtV for more information about this divesting budget proposal.
