On Tuesday, August 11, Councilwoman Tunua Thrash-Ntuk will be bringing forward a recommendation to the Long Beach City Council to direct the preparation of an ordinance that will prohibit false advertising and misinformation by Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPC’s). This will be listed as Agenda Item #14, 26-55810. Roberto Uranga, Vice Mayor, Seventh District, and Megan Kerr, Councilwoman, Fifth District, are also sponsors.
NCJW-GLB & WOC is partnering with Councilwoman Thrash-Ntuk and her staff to seek approval to move forward on this issue. Our Abortion Justice & Reproductive Rights Working Group has been working on this priority issue for several years!
These fake clinics, one of which is located in Long Beach, use deceptive methods to discourage women from pursuing abortion and thus may delay prenatal care. CPC’s particularly target low-income women of color.

What the Ordinance Does: The item directs the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance prohibiting false or misleading advertising by pregnancy services centers concerning the services they actually provide, offer, or arrange.
