Webinar: Every Voice, Every Vote, Every Month: Reproductive Freedom on the Ballot

Thursday, May 16, 5 pm, online

When voters come together, they can pass ballot measures to protect reproductive freedom. In this webinar cosponsored by the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism and the Women of Reform Judaism, learn where reproductive freedom will be on the ballot this year and what we can do to support these crucial efforts. Register HERE.

Reproductive freedom will be on the ballot this year in a number of states. You do not need to be affiliated with a reform synagogue (or any synagogue) to support the effort and write postcards!

On May 1, Florida's six-week abortion ban took effect, stripping Floridians of their right to bodily autonomy and reproductive healthcare. You can write postcards to encourage Floridians to vote Yes on Amendment 4 for Reproductive Freedom this November and overturn this ban.  Postcards come in packs of 30 and can be mailed as soon as you complete them.

If you are interested in writing postcards to Florida, or to other battleground states, contact Deb Lelchuk at advocacy@ncjwlongbeach.org.

Fourth Thursday Movie Night:

Silver Linings Playbook

Thursday, May 23, 6:45 pm, Member's Home

In acknowledgment of Mental Health Awareness month, we will be watching Silver Linings Playbook, a top-tier romantic comedy starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence (in an Oscar-winning performance) and Robert DeNiro. A man with bipolar disorder moves home with his parents and makes a connection with a spirited widow, which helps both heal in unique ways. Bipolar disorder is an often misunderstood mental health condition that is often portrayed inaccurately. However, Cooper approaches it through a compassionate and authentic lens -- rather than descending into stereotypes, he brings his character to life in a very understated way. Furthermore, the film combines humor and drama with incredible results, making for a fun (but also heartbreaking) watch.

You will receive the location of the movie night once you register. Please register HERE by Tuesday, May 21.

Help Make Abortion Comfort Kits!

Tuesday, June 4, 6 pm, AJCC

We'd be so glad to see you there! If you choose, bring a small toy to refill the Treasure Chests for kids at the clinics. We also plan to have a great Courageous Conversations speaker, and we'll continue writing notes to the clinic clients and service providers. Also, Family Planning Associates will be there to speak about some of the latest reproductive activity in the community.

See you soon! Tell your friends! Wine, wisdom, work and wonderful women!

RSVP HERE or email communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org. Be sure to register by Monday so we can give your name to the front desk.
