President's Corner with Angie Burke

Angie Burke
NCMA Denver President
Dear Denver Chapter,
If you are interested in developing your leadership skills within the NCMA organization, for personal or professional growth, we have two opportunities this month. This Wednesday, April 18 th, from 5-7pm, join us for a discussion on opportunities in NCMA's Contract Management Leadership Development Program (CMLDP), our certifications and study groups, and volunteer opportunities. Hear all about the program, get advice on how to apply and prepare, what's it like to participate in the program, and how it benefitted the careers of some of Denver's CMLDP graduates.
We also are calling for nominations for our upcoming Chapter election, to be held by an online survey at the end of April. Because of the election cycle, the only Officer position up for election this year is for President-Elect for Program Year 2018-2019 (the position starts July 1 st). The role is a three-year commitment to serve as President-Elect, President, then President Emeritus. Nominees must be a member of the Denver Chapter and have served on the Board of Directors within the past three years. This is a great opportunity to serve on a non-profit Board of Directors and lead a strong and active Chapter of a national organization. If you qualify and have a desire to volunteer for the Chapter, submit your nomination to me at angie@burkelaw.law, no later than close of business Friday, April 20 th. To vote for a nominee, keep an eye out for the election email at the end of April.
In addition to these opportunities for professional development and networking, the Chapter continues to bring ongoing training for its members. On April 19 th learn about Maximizing Teaming Under SBA's Joint Venture Rules. On April 26 th, learn more about Preparing to be a Leader - the Seven C's of Leadership. Both webinars are eligible for 1.5 CPE/CLP credits.
On May 8 th, join us at the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs for an afternoon and evening event discussing the Future of the Department of Defense - Change to Enable Rapid Acquisition and Insertion of Innovative Technology. National Contract Management Association, National Defense Industrial Association and the Space Foundation will co-host an event featuring Ms. Sue Payton and Mr. Gary Payton, former Air Force acquisition executives. This discussion will no doubt prove interesting. Continue the conversation and networking with refreshments, hour d'oeuvres, and admission to the Space Foundation Discovery Center.
Last, registration is open for World Congress! Don't forget that the NCMA Denver Chapter offers a scholarship for qualifying, active members to help with registration expenses. We hope to see you there!
CMLDP/Certification Networking Event: April 18th, 2018
