President's Corner with Angie Nelson

Angie Nelson
NCMA Denver President
Dear Denver Chapter,

I hope you all had a safe long weekend, as we remember and honor those who gave everything for our country.

Our final Board of Directors meeting of this program year will be Wednesday, June 13th, and combined with our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at  Humboldt Farm Fish Wine. The cost to attend, which includes appetizers, an entree, and two beverages, is $25 for NCMA members and $35 for non-members/guests. Please see the registration link in this newsletter (space is limited and RSVPs required). We are holding this dinner to celebrate our program year and to say thank you to those in the Denver Chapter who have given their time generously to give back to the NCMA community. If you're interested in joining the Board of Directors, this is a great opportunity to come meet with us.

I will be turning the "gavel" over to our incoming President, Jami Eckel, whose term starts July 1st. We will also be welcoming our new President-Elect for the following year, Ashley Parker, who our members just voted into office. Congratulations Ashley! We also will be recognizing a few members of the Board of Advisors and Board of Directors who have gone above and beyond for this organization.

Don't forget there are still opportunities for our members to take advantage of before the close of the program year. If you want to attend World Congress, and meet certain eligibility requirements, we offer a scholarship to attend! You can also nominate (or be nominated) for NCMA's Advancing Professional Award (due JUNE 1st) or Outstanding Chapter Volunteer Award (due July 31st). Applications for the Contract Management Leadership Development Program are due before midnight on July 31, 2018. If you're considering applying, reach out to me soon as the current Chapter President. Also, please stay tuned for registration details for the June 21st NCMA Webinar: Buyer/Seller Communications & Exchanges of Information.

I hope to see you in June!

RECAP: The Future of DoD - Change to Enable Rapid Acquisition and Insertion of Innovative Technology
Our joint event with NCMA-Pikes Peak, NDIA-Rocky Mountain Chapter and the Space Foundation exceeded expectations. The speakers first presented on why the current acquisition process is complicated and results in hurdles for DoD to bring in new innovation from non-traditional contractors. The discussion period with the audience was lively and focused on ideas for change to the acquisition process, use of non-traditional contracts, should the DoD accept more risk, and whether culture change in DoD and industry is needed. Many thanks to our co-hosts, our speakers - Gary and Sue Payton, and our sponsors - Ball Aerospace, Boecore, Lockheed Martin, Sherman & Howard, Six & Geving, and Synergetics.
