A Prayer for a Peaceful Earth

God is our refuge and our strength,

An ever-present help when we are in trouble.

Though mountains tumble into the depths of the sea,

and its waters roar and seethe, and the mountains quake.

The God of hosts is with us.

At break of day, God comes to the rescue.

Nations are in an uproar, kingdoms are tumbling,

And when God raises His voice, the earth crumbles.

The God of hosts is with us.

Come, consider the wonders of the God of peace,

The astounding deeds God has done on the earth.

God puts an end to wars over the whole wide world.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

farm bill 2012

Last chance for a 2012 Farm Bill

The national elections are over. So what's on the legislative agenda for the lame-duck session? By raising our civic voice, we can make sure the 2012 Farm Bill is on that list. The future of healthy farms, food, and communities depends on key reforms in this bill.

As members of Congress returned to Washington this week, a petition with nearly 22,000 signatures was delivered to Congress demanding an equitable, sustainable 2012 Farm Bill. We express our thanks to those who signed this petition.

This Thursday is a National Day of Action for a BETTER farm bill. Please Congress know we need a farm bill, and we need it now! Join many other voices in making a call to Congress on Thursday, Nov. 15.

Find your Representative's office number here.

The message: Get a farm bill done, and get it done right.

New report calls for closing costliest coal plants

The Union of Concerned Scientists released a report this week stating that as many as 353 coal-fired power generators in 31 states are no longer economically viable compared with cleaner, more affordable energy sources

The old U.S. coal-fired generators are inefficient, dirty, and no longer economically competitive. Simply stated, they are ripe for retirement and should be considered for closure. You can download the full report here.

NCRLC will begin to focus attention on how we as a nation can make the transition to a cleaner energy future, such as advocating for renewable energy alternatives and pushing for a carbon tax. We do so in the spirit of caring for Creation and ensuring a safer world for future generations.

Festival of Faiths draws attention to environmental concerns

NCRLC executive director Jim Ennis is attending the Festival of Faiths this week in Louisville, Kentucky. The theme for the  2012 Festival of Faiths - "Sacred Fire: Light of Compassion" - is the fourth in a series of Festival themes that direct attention to various elements of nature and our responsibility to be good stewards of our environment.

In the spirit of caring for creation, this week's Festival of Faiths blog draws attention to this year's Festival events that will help our community define compassion toward our environment and natural resources.
