Norwalk Community School District • May 2025

A Note of Gratitude

I want to take a moment to recognize the dedicated individuals who make Norwalk Community School District a great place for students. May is both National Teacher Appreciation Week and School Board Appreciation Month, making it the perfect time to show gratitude for the hard work of our teachers, staff, and board members.

Our teachers and staff are the backbone of our schools. Every day, they demonstrate commitment and passion in helping our students learn and grow. Whether in the classroom, on the field, in the lunchroom, or behind the scenes, their impact is felt throughout our district. Their dedication aligns with our mission—Growing Learners and Leaders—by fostering self-awareness, self-direction, strategic thinking, social awareness, and connection in our students. Thank you for the incredible work you do for our students and families.

I also want to take this opportunity to recognize the vital role of our school board members. These individuals volunteer their time and effort to guide our district, ensuring we provide the best education possible. According to the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB), board members play a crucial role in student success, setting the direction for education and maintaining strong community connections. Their leadership helps shape the policies and decisions that keep our schools moving forward.

Our Norwalk CSD Board Members include:

  • Justin Fletcher, President
  • Brian Rausch, Vice President
  • Daniel Doerfler
  • Kate Baldwin
  • Michelle Kelly

This month, I encourage you to take a moment to thank a teacher, staff member, or school board member. Their dedication and commitment make a real difference in the lives of our students and the strength of our community. I am grateful to work alongside such an incredible team, and I appreciate all they do for Norwalk CSD. Thank you for supporting our schools and helping us grow learners and leaders.

Respectfully,

Shawn Holloway, Superintendent

BOUND Online Ticketing Announcement

The Norwalk Athletic and Activity Department has recently transitioned to Bound as our new online ticketing provider. Starting next week with home high school soccer games, all tickets must be purchased through Bound. You will still be able to use badges/passes. This is only if you need to purchase a ticket.

Bound is already the ticketing provider for many Des Moines area schools and postseason IGHSAU events, and we believe this change will make purchasing tickets easier and more convenient for Norwalk event attendees.

To purchase tickets, visit the Norwalk Bound page at https://www.gobound.com/ia/schools/norwalk. Once there, click on the Tickets tab, select your event, and complete your purchase using a credit card. You can also create a Bound account for faster future purchases. Please note that this applies to Norwalk home events only.

At the event, you will be scanned in using the QR code sent to you after purchase. A card reader will also be available at each event for added convenience.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to the Activities Department. We appreciate your support and look forward to providing a smoother ticketing experience with Bound.

NEWS

Exciting News: NCSD is Moving to ParentSquare for 2025-2026

We’re excited to announce that starting with the 2025-26 school year, Norwalk Community School District will be transitioning from Parent Messenger to ParentSquare, a new, all-in-one communication platform for families, students, and staff.

ParentSquare will replace current tools like Parent Messenger, Remind, ClassDoJo, and other messaging apps, bringing everything into one easy-to-use system — while still complementing platforms like Seesaw, Canvas, ParentPortal, and Bound.

What Parents Need to Know:

  •  One place for school updates, teacher messages, forms, sign-ups & more
  •  Two-way messaging with automatic translation
  •  Seamless connection to Infinite Campus — class info, schedules, and rosters will automatically sync
  •  Mobile-friendly (iOS & Android) and fully integrated with email
  • Students in grades 6-12 will use StudentSquare, the student version of the platform. For athletics and activities, ParentSquare will become the primary communication tool, with social media still used as a secondary source.

More information and setup instructions will be shared as we get closer to the new school year!

For a sneak peek, check out ParentSquare’s features here:

We’re excited to make school-to-home communication easier and more connected!
