Consensual Non-monogamy for Mental Health Professionals
|
Download our new brochure created with the APA Division 44: Consensual Non-monogamy Task Force offering practice guidelines for mental health professionals who work with people who identify as non-monogamous. Along with common topics addressed in therapy are recommendations for supporting clients who are non-monogamous as well as institution/systems-related recommendations.
Consensual Non-monogamy (CNM) is defined as a relationship arrangement in which the participants give informed consent to simultaneous, multiple intimate, romantic, and/or sexual relationships. This can include polyamory, open relationships, swinging, and relationship anarchy. Some people may desire and/or identify with CNM, but not engage in it.

HOW TO TALK ABOUT AND TEACH CONSENT
Our anchor speaker will be Invictuz from consentwarrior.com. Consent is the foundation of every interaction in our communities, from a simple hug, to physical interaction, to our relationships. So how do we change our culture to always make consent the cornerstone of our conversations?
THE POWER OF NO
In the great shift from 'No means No', to only 'Yes means Yes', have we lost sight of the power of NO? Why do we still have trouble saying NO and asserting our boundaries? How and why would you reward someone for saying 'No'?
After each panel, there will be a breakout session, for people to be able to share ideas and continue discussions on sub-topics they are passionate about.
There will be a a deli style lunch provided with an opportunity to network with those in the room. THIS IS A SAFE SPACE FOR ALL VOICES!

The Northwest Regional Consent Summit
|
Work is proceeding in organizing the Northwest Regional Consent Summit, which will be held October 5th and 6th at Norse Hall, 111 NE. 11th Ave. in Portland, Oregon. This major event will bring together local and nationally known educators, activists, sex therapists and community leaders to explore and reshape the meaning and practice of consent.
In addition to its prominent keynote speakers and the panel discussions on a wide range of consent issues, the Summit will include breakout groups on un-conference discussions and a Continuing Education track. There will be lots of networking and opportunities for activism. And participants will also have fun at the party and event activities planned for the evening.

Incident Reporting & Response
2nd Quarter 2019 Report
|
NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 43 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in April, May and June 2019. This is similar to the 41 requests received in the 1st Quarter of 2019. NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.

breakdown of the cases we dealt with in the 2nd Quarter of 2019:

NCSF at AASECT in Philadelphia
June 13-16, 2019
Thank you to everyone who came by the NCSF table in the Exhibit Hall to talk about our advocacy and to get educational materials on kink and nonmonogamy. NCSF also signed up therapists and educators on our Kink Aware Professionals database which provides Sex-Positive Support for Kink and Nonmonogamy.
Board Members Keira Harbison and Susan Wright along with Antoinette Patterson, PhD, and Deborah Rose presented Finding the Right Fit: Alternative Sexuality Communities that discussed how to provide support to help guide clients through experiences within an alt sex community that offers educational and social opportunities. 75 attendees learned about the similarities and differences between polyamory, swing lifestyle, sex positive, BDSM/kink, leather and fetish communities.
NCSF Board Members also attended the AASECT Business Meeting along with almost 50 other AASECT members to discuss the negative impact of the new “Presenter Guidelines for AASECT Presentations that include Live Demonstrations.” NCSF was very disappointed that because of this new policy, AASECT wouldn’t allow A Taste of Kink to be presented as had been planned with the Philadelphia presenters and the AASECT Alt Sex SIG. After two sold-out and successful Taste of Kinks in Minneapolis and Denver, there were many AASECT attendees who stopped by the NCSF table to say they were disappointed that the interactive workshop wasn’t being offered this year.

NCSF Participates in a Womens' Leather History Discussion
Last month NCSF’s Consent Counts director Judy Guerin participated in a fascinating women's event in Toronto Canada hosted by longtime activist Nancy Irwin and Mistress Patricia Marsh of Toronto and Mistress Mir of New Jersey. The highlight of the event was an extended roundtable discussion of the history of women's participation in the scene and in sexual activism in Canada and the United States.
The conversation also focused on current issues facing sexual minorities in the Toronto area. In addition, a women's party was held at one of Toronto's leading venues.
NCSF wants to thank Nancy Irwin and Patricia Marsh for organizing this event and also thank the Toronto community for such a warm welcome and robust discussions.

Media Updates and Web Features
|
NCSF Media Updates are a sampling of recent stories printed in US newspapers, magazines, and selected websites containing significant mention of BDSM-leather-fetish, polyamory, or Lifestyle issues and topics. These stories may be positive, negative, accurate, inaccurate or anywhere in between.
NCSF publishes the Media Updates to provide readers with a comprehensive look at what media outlets are writing about these topics and to urge everyone to make comments that dispute stereotypes about alternative sexuality.
