NCSF’s Service Professionals Survey Results

We have the results of NCSF’s survey of Service Professionals! Nearly 1 in 3 (30%) of kink and/or polyamory aware professionals experienced stigma that affected themselves (e.g. aggression) or their work (e.g. loss of job/referral). Only 63% of those who are alt-sex aware advertise themselves that way, with 64% of those who are alt-sex aware reporting that their employer knows.

65% of service professionals reported they’ve received formal and informal training about kink or non-monogamy. Participants reported that the following training types should be required: community group workshops, continuing education workshops, and experience with clients. Participants reported that in order to be alt-sex aware, the most important topics were consent, communication skills, and acceptance of others. Participants said that in order to serve alt-sex clients, the most important topics were consent, navigating stigma/discrimination from others, and navigating one’s own privilege/biases.

NCSF at the APA Conference!

NCSF exhibited at the American Psychological Association in Seattle, WA, in August, 2024. It was an inspiring 3 days with more than 8,400 psychologists, academicians, practitioners,

researchers, students, and others in attendance. Archer Shelton (NCSF Treasurer), Tess Zachary (NCSF Chairperson), Russell Stambaugh (KAP Liaison), and Stephen Ratcliff (Fundraising Chairperson) spoke to hundreds of attendees and distributed over 1,200 pieces of educational materials!

NCSF Awards

2024 Race Bannon Advocacy Award given to Dr. Richard Sprott

Dr. Richard Sprott received the Race Bannon Lifetime Achievement Award on Aug 10th at the American Psychological Association’s annual conference in Seattle. Russell Stambaugh, PhD, presented the award and talked about Richard’s significant contributions in education, research, teaching, writing, and institution building on behalf of the alt-sex communities. NCSF gives the Race Bannon Advocacy Award to a senior member of the communities who has made a singular series of lifetime achievements to advance the sexual freedom and destigmatization of our communities.

2024 Up and Coming Advocacy Award

G and Marilu with SaferSex.com received the Up and Coming Advocacy Award from NCSF at SPLASH Takevers in September. This award is for someone new or a new initiative in the field that the NCSF recognizes is making an outstanding contribution through the public education and advocacy for swinging, consensual non-monogamy, or BDSM and sexual freedom. Part of SaferSex.com's initiatives is the Safer Spaces Advocacy Program, a vision for enhanced awareness, safety, and inclusivity at sex-positive gatherings. This vision has evolved into a comprehensive program dedicated to promoting safer space practices where consenting adults meet.

Incident Reporting & Response – 3rd Quarter 2024 Report

NCSF’s Incident Reporting & Response received 50 reports & requests for assistance from individuals, groups and businesses in July, August and September 2024, compared to the 81 reports in the 2nd Quarter of 2024.

NCSF maintains the confidentiality of those who come to us for help, however we balance that need with the need to report the services we are providing and to provide the community with a record of where the need is the greatest.
