To meet the requirements outlined in IHSA’s memorandum of understanding with the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA), all NCSO® applicants must complete a COR® audit using AuditSoft. This audit is a key component of the certification process, ensuring applicants have the necessary knowledge and skills to assess workplace safety programs effectively.
Meeting the COR® Audit Requirement
Applicants can fulfill this requirement through one of the following options:
- Internal or External Audit Submission – If you are a COR® Internal Auditor, you may submit an audit you conducted within the past 12 months.
- Four-Element COR® Audit – If your employer is not COR®-certified or you are not the designated COR® Internal Auditor, you must complete a four-element audit (covering elements 2, 3, 8, and 10) at your company or another approved site.
All NCSO® applicants—whether new or renewing—must complete either a full NCSO® audit or the NCSO® Student Audit. Those working for a COR®-registered or certified company may submit an audit they personally conducted and entered into AuditSoft. If you were not the designated internal auditor, you cannot use that audit for your NCSO® certification.
The NCSO® certification is an individual credential, separate from employer certifications. Each applicant must have their own AuditSoft license and submit an audit they have personally conducted and documented. While a passing score is not required, the audit must demonstrate your ability to evaluate and interpret safety program data.
It is important to note that completing the NCSO® Student Audit does not impact a company's COR® internal or external audit results.
