Be sure to check back periodically for catalog updates. This past week, we added Honors 1 and 2 options for French, Latin, and Spanish for Standard Start Fall 2025 classes.

We also have a new filtering feature in our registration system. This will make it easier to find the NCVPS courses that you need.

Registration Tips

Here are a few tips as you register:

• Use our new filters to ensure you’re enrolling in the correct semester. We have summer, fall, spring, yearlong, early standard, and standard start options.
• Be sure to add the IEP and 504 modifications as you enroll students with IEPs.
• Download an enrollment report when you’re done registering for the day. Check to see if they’re enrolled or waitlisted.
• Understand our waitlist. Our instructional directors use the waitlist to determine if they need to open a new section of the course or increase the capacity of an already opened section.
• We will likely have a few courses end up on our course capacity list. Popular demand and teacher limitations drive this list. Students waitlisted for those courses may have a difficult time getting a seat in the course.

Early Start vs. Standard Start: Choose Your End Date for Final Grades

NCVPS has two dates for reporting Fall 2025 final grades:

• Early Start classes: December 11, 2025
• Standard Start classes: January 15, 2026

For Spring 2026, we also have two dates for reporting final grades:

• Early Start Classes: May 14, 2026
• Standard Start Classes: May 21, 2026

Each semester, we offer two calendars: Early Start and Standard Start. Consider two points when choosing a calendar in which to enroll students.

First: When do you have access to your students? You need to ensure they can access their NCVPS courses.

Second: When do you need final grades?

Determine when you need final grades and register students for that calendar (Early Start or Standard Start). In the past, we’ve had several schools request early final grades late in the semester. We have moved away from that practice. Our concerns are always for student success and academic integrity. We prefer that students are not rushed through a course. They need time to complete all the modules and objectives in their courses. Please guard that teaching and learning time for your online students. Work with your data managers and curriculum directors to help ensure this best practice.

Here are our key dates for the 25-26 school year.

Note that we are starting districts and charters with last year's projected allotment, and we will adjust when DPI provides the new allotment projections for the 25-26 school year.

Open enrollment for Spring 2025 ended on Feb. 14, but we still have enrollment options for you.

Transfers – NCVPS accepts transfer students after the regular enrollment period has ended. Ideally, transfer students should have already been enrolled in the course at their face-to-face school, have received instructional time with a teacher, and have a grade to transfer in with.

If a student is starting the course new, the school must provide a plan outlining how they will support students until they catch up and are on pace to complete the course.

Transfers are not limited to individual students—entire classes can be transferred as well. This can be especially helpful if a school experiences a teacher loss. Before submitting a transfer request for a large group of students, please contact us or open a support ticket to check course capacity first.

Open a ticket with our Virtual Support Center to transfer students. Be sure to include the following in your ticket:

• Student’s Name
• PowerSchool ID#
• School Name
• Transfer Grade
• Course Needed
• Support Details - Please submit support details that your school will provide if the student is new to the course or has a failing transfer grade.
• Additional Details: Any student details that can help the NCVPS teacher

Transfer options will remain open through midterms each semester.

Co-teaching – You can add students throughout the semester to our co-teaching OCS and intervention courses.

PE/Health – Our second session-health and PE courses are still open for registration.

Emergency Requests – We understand that unforeseen events can disrupt your regular school operations. Contact our Virtual Support Center for help. 

Partnership Courses – You can continue to add students to your partnership courses throughout the semester. We will create a new invoice for you.

NCVPS Arts Courses Meet Requirements of New Session Law 

All NCVPS arts courses (except AP Art History) meet the Arts Education Graduation Requirement set by Session Law SL2020-78. This includes our middle school arts courses.

S681 passed in June of 2020 and became Session Law SL2020-78 in July. This law directed the State Board of Education (SBE) to modify graduation requirements, which previously included an option to include an arts education credit, to require one credit of arts education to be completed at any time during grades six through twelve. The new requirement begins with students entering Grade 6 in 2022-23 and, subsequently, in Grade 9 in 2025-26.

AP Exam Registration Reminder for NCVPS Students

All NCVPS AP students should have received their AP Join Codes from teachers during the first week of class. Students who enrolled late or need a reminder can request the code again from their NCVPS teacher. See our full announcement on AP Join Codes.

As virtual learning has become a part of everyday learning for most families across North Carolina, many parents, guardians, and mentors continue to struggle with how to support their online learners in blended and online classes. To provide resources and strategies for how to support not only our NCVPS students, but all online learners in North Carolina, NCVPS has created two Supporting Online Students (SOS) video courses in Canvas. Both courses are free, open to the public, and do not require login credentials. Please share both links with your educational communities and parent networks.

The first course, Supporting Online Students – All NC, is general in nature and is designed for parents, guardians, and mentors of any student who is participating in a blended or online course or is enrolled in a fully online program regardless of school or grade level.

The second course, Supporting Online Students – NCVPS, is specific to NCVPS and includes specific examples, demonstrations, and resources for NC Virtual parents, guardians, and mentors.

NCVPS has a mobile app, and Canvas has two mobile apps and a web portal. What does each one do? We're glad you asked! Here you go:

NCVPS App: Stay connected with what's happening at NCVPS. Think of these as "front office" notifications.

Canvas Apps and Web Portal: Connect with a student's course, see grades, due dates, pacing guides, and message the teacher.
