North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is excited to offer In-Real-Time (IRT), our synchronous instruction program designed to deliver live, whole-class middle school courses taught by certified North Carolina teachers.
IRT is an excellent solution for schools needing instructional support, particularly when a certified teacher isn’t available. Whether working alongside a substitute or supporting a new educator, our IRT teachers provide high-quality, real-time instruction to help ensure student success.
Available Courses

- 8th Grade Science
- 8th Grade Math
- 8th Grade English Language Arts
- 7th Grade Science
- 7th Grade Math
- 7th Grade English Language Arts
- NC Math 1 (Middle and High)
Flexible Scheduling Options
Choose from the following 75-minute instructional blocks:
Block 1 – 8:00 AM–9:15 AM
Block 2 – 9:25 AM–10:40 AM
Block 3 – 10:50 AM–12:05 PM
Block 4 – 12:15 PM–1:30 PM
Block 5 – 1:40 PM–2:55 PM
Schools can finalize scheduling preferences later in the process.
The IRT program includes the following:
- Partnering schools have the option of selecting from 5-pre-defined, 75-minute session windows to occur between 8:00 am-3:00 pm.
- Partnering schools will be able to personalize the start time of the 45-minute synchronous session within the selected 75-minute window.
- Synchronous instruction taught by a certified NCVPS instructor.
- Accompanying asynchronous modules taught by the same instructor in our Canvas system.
- Continuous student feedback, grading, instructional support, additional resources, etc.
IRT is beneficial if any of the following items pertain to your school:
- Your school is new to NCVPS
- Your students are new to online learning
- Your students would benefit from live instruction
- Your school has teacher vacancies or limited teacher capacity

All districts and schools are invited to attend to learn more about the NCVPS IRT.
After the webinar, schools will be invited to complete a survey if they have an interest in the program. Schools that decide to participate in the program will be contacted with more information on the timeline for implementation and training.
