Weeks 1 and 2 – Access Check and Enrollment Options

Visit our Access Check and Enrollment Options page for essential details to ensure your students have a successful start.

Live Sessions for Middle School Students

NCVirtual knows that the transition to online learning has been hard, especially for middle school students. We are committed to providing extra support to help your middle school students be successful in their online classes.

Beginning the week of January 23rd, a group of NCVirtual teachers will begin offering live coaching sessions for middle school students. Attendance is NOT required for these live sessions; although, we hope you will encourage your students to participate. Students will be enrolled in another Canvas section in order to be able to access the zoom link for the live coaching sessions. We are sending similar communications to middle school students and parents. Here are the details:

  • Session topics will be repeated throughout each week. Your students are welcome to attend multiple live sessions in the same week if they like - just know the topics will be the same.
  • Your students do not have to attend a session with their teacher.
  • Sessions will be recorded and students may review the recordings afterward.

Parent Contact Information

NCVirtual tasks its teachers to have regular communications with the parents or guardians of their students. However, our teachers often find the contact information in PowerSchool is not accurate. Please help our teachers find update-to-date parent contact information. Our teachers will be reaching out to you, as we rely on schools to provide that information. We are sure your school will need current parent contact information, too!

Requesting Final Grade Early for Spring Classes

We have a new two-step process for requesting final grades early for spring Standard Start classes. Our spring Standard Start courses end on May 18, 2021, and final grades will be reported on May 28. Schools can request an early May 14 reporting date. Here's the process:

Step 1: Districts and schools can opt for early reporting on May 14 by submitting this form.

Step 2: Communicate your end-date expectations to your students and our NCVirtual teachers. Do this early in the semester so that our teachers have time to adjust the pacing guides for your students.

Communication between the school, student, and teacher is essential here.

This process is for Standard Start classes only. Our Early Start classes will report on May 14, their original end date.

Funding Formula and Payment Options

If your district is near the end of its NCVPS allotment funding, you have several options.

Districts can apply to use NCVPS reserve funds. This funding is not unlimited, however. We have a $2 million reserve for all districts and charters to use once they've exhausted their allotted funds. We do have reserve funds remaining, though.

Districts can use CARES Act funding for NCVirtual enrollments. This funding can be used for spring enrollments OR used retroactively for fall classes. This would reduce your allotment usage. You can also use certain other state, local, or federal funds for enrollment.

Co-Teaching Update

Please remind your co-teaching teachers in the face to face schools that the ONLINE partner teacher for your students class will be contacting you to set up a welcome call as well as giving you the log-in and password for their course. They may not have access to this course until closer to the start date of the semester as the teachers are still being assigned and the sections are being created.

Once a section is created, it may take approximately 48-72 hours to get everyone assigned and ready to go. For new sections created during the drop/add period, please expect this same 48-72 hour turn-around. Thank you for your patience and partnership!

Waitlist and Course Capacity List

NCVirtual is not a software program. Our online courses are teacher-led, and we are mindful of their class sizes. If your student is waitlisted for a course, that waitlist is usually temporary. Our instructional directors use the waitlist to determine if they should open a new section or increase the size of a current section. However, each semester, we have a few courses that reach their maximum enrollment capacity. To see courses that have capacity issues, visit our Course Capacity List.

Enrolling in OCS Courses

See our new OCS Program page before enrolling in NCVPS courses. We have streamlined the process. For help with the OCS registration process, watch our OCS Registration Video.

Enrolling in Intervention Co-Teaching Courses

We have a new Intervention Co-Teaching Program page that gives details on the program and enrollment process. Watch our Intervention Co-Teaching Video to see the enrollment process.

Registering Early Start Students in Standard Start Courses

If you are an early-start school, you can still register your students into our Standard Start courses. If you need your students to finish early before the May 18 end date, please proceed to the next process.

SAR Data

Schools will access NCVPS SAR data from either an enrollment report or grade report. See our PowerSchool and NCVPS Registration guide for details. Please do not request data directly from teachers. Thank you!

Getting Started

Direct students to our Getting Started as an NCVPS Student page before classes begin. This page will help students get oriented and answer all their questions on how our courses work.

Student Spotlight

Meet Shreya S.

"As a student who attends an early college, I didn’t have the opportunity to take very many AP classes at my middle college as very few advanced classes were offered in the curriculum. At NC Virtual I had the opportunity to use the online learning platform to take a variety of classes, work with my teachers and peers on a completely different medium, and also adapt to a new style of teaching and learning.

At NC Virtual, I took AP Computer Science Principles and AP Statistics in my junior. Currently, in my senior year, I am taking AP Biology and AP Human Geography."
