Greetings, everyone!

We are in full summer preparation mode!

In the Trending Updates section, see details on the NC State Board's approval of funding for NCVirtual's summer school. Many districts and charter schools are already taking advantage of this additional funding.

In Summer News, see how you can prepare your students for the start of our summer session while our teachers are on their 31-day break.

See all the news and highlights below, and forward this e-lert to any stakeholders who may need it. They can subscribe to the e-lert here.

State Board Approves Funding for NCVirtual Summer Session

The big news is that the NC State Board of Education approved a measure to fund NCVirtual’s summer school. We sent this information to our stakeholders on June 3, and we wanted to include it again in today's e-lert.

Based on their ADM, each district and charter school will receive enrollments for our summer session that will not count in their allotment totals. The State Board is covering this cost with its ESSER II funds.

See the allotments for your district or charter on the Summer 2021 Enrollments Covered by ESSER II Funds spreadsheet. Any enrollments beyond the ESSER II funds would count in your NCVPS allotment totals.

Summer ESSER II enrollments can be used for any course in our summer catalog. On our catalog page, select “Summer” for the “CHOOSE SEMESTER OPTION” filter.

Preparing for the NCVirtual Summer Session

The state has a mandatory 31-day break for our teachers. Our teachers will not begin contacting students and schools until June 29. However, you can take a few steps to prepare for the start of our summer session.

Direct students to our Getting Started as a Student webpage.

Be sure students and parents have the following printable guides:

We have guides for schools, too:

Summer Contact Information Needed

Districts and schools registering students for summer classes need to complete our NCVirtual Summer 2021 ELA Contact Information form.

NCVirtual needs the contact information for each school that registers students for Summer 2021 classes. Students registered for summer classes will need to know who the contact is, as well. Students can drop through our 10th day of class, but they need to know who to contact at the school or district level so they can be dropped. Districts may elect to have just one contact for the entire district over the summer.

Presently, you may not have any students enrolled in NCVirtual summer courses, but if your school does enroll students in the coming weeks for Summer 2021, we will need this information.

If districts have their school-level ELA contact information in an Excel document, they can copy and paste that into the contact box on the link above.

New for Summer 2021

In addition to our traditional summer offerings, we have expanded our summer catalog in response to Session Law 2021-7, House Bill 8. Here's what's new:

OCS - For the first time, we will offer OCS courses during our summer session. In our registration system, search for "Blended" to find the OCS courses.

Intervention Co-Teaching - Also, for the first time, we are offering our intervention co-teaching courses during the summer.

For both OCS and co-teaching, you will need to have a f2f (face-to-face) teacher.

Credit Recovery - We are also offering credit recovery beginning again this summer! We were the first online school in the nation to offer credit recovery, and we are pleased to bring it back. Our program is teacher lead, unlike most credit recovery software programs. In our registration system, look for CR in the course title or search for "CR" in the search box.

Our summer session begins July 1. Here are the key summer dates:

July 1 - First day of Class

July 8 - Last Day to Register

July 15 - Last Day to drop

August 11 - Summer Session Ends

Dates and Times: June 22, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Description: Despite the overwhelming consequences of the pandemic, COVID-19 forced us to rethink how technology can be used to teach and connect with students and families. Although districts across our state have shifted back to traditional teaching, we do not have to abandon some of the best practices learned from the pandemic. District and school leaders and classroom teachers are invited to join us to learn how you can continue to use technology to support student learning, personalize and differentiate learning, and engage with students and families.

Target Audience: Teachers, Curriculum Coaches & Administrators. All are Welcome!

Registration: Please visit our Digital Transition page.
