Last year the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission was awarded a grant from the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) to help with the economic recovery of the region as a result of the coronavirus. Every town, village, city, and county has been impacted. The scope of work supports activities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic, and to respond to economic injury as a result of coronavirus. To date, the NCWRPC has made notable progress on the Regional Recovery Plan effort, the Regional Health Pandemic and Future Response effort, and in their Technical Assistance and Planning Support efforts.
Regional Recovery Plan Planning Effort
NCWRPC Staff and members of the Regional Recovery Plan Committee held their second meeting on April 19, and met for the third time on June 28.
The meeting on April 19 included an overview of Broadband and Childcare within the Region. The committee described the current status of broadband and childcare within the Region, the issues currently facing and created by a lack of broadband and childcare, how broadband and childcare have been impacted by COVID-19, the benefits of expanding and enhancing access to broadband and childcare, and the vision for broadband and childcare within the Region. The second meeting also helped develop the survey that will be conducted as part of the Regional Recovery Plan.
The meeting on June 28 included an overview of Housing & Transportation and the Tourism & Hospitality Industries. The committee discussed the current status of Housing & Transportation and the Tourism & Hospitality industries, identified the issues they are currently facing within the Region, how they have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the benefits that enhancing Housing & Transportation as well as the Tourism & Hospitality Industries will have throughout the Region. The Committee also finalized the survey that will be conducted and discussed the next steps in the Regional Recovery Planning Process during this meeting.

Regional Health Pandemic and Future Response
This Committee met for the second time on June 10 and had excellent discussion about local health department response to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also worked to identify recommendations to include within the document. This has been the largest sustained public health response within recent history and this team of professionals is dedicated to providing direction that will build a public health system that is sustainable and resilient and more able to effectively deal with similar events in the future.
