NCWRPC Adopts Regional Recovery Plan
|
On January 26th, the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission officially adopted the North Central Wisconsin Regional Recovery Plan. The Regional Recovery Plan supports activities that prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as respond to economic injury that was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The purpose of the Regional Recovery Plan is to guide economic stabilization, recovery, and resiliency efforts within North Central Wisconsin. The Regional Recovery Plan establishes a set of strategies that identify best practices to help spur economic stabilization and recovery in the wake of economic shocks and to help build local economic resilience.

Regional Recovery Plan Foundational Pillar Assessment Reports
As part of our Regional Recovery Plan, the NCWRPC and the Regional Recovery Plan Advisory Committee identified five foundational pillars that are crucial for economic recovery and resilience efforts throughout North Central Wisconsin in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. These five foundational pillars are identified below:
- Broadband
- Childcare
- Housing & Transportation
- Workforce & Talent Attraction
- Tourism & Hospitality
To help illustrate the importance of each foundational pillar, the NCWRPC has developed a series of assessment reports, one for each pillar, that focus on identifying and addressing the opportunities and challenges facing each of the five foundational pillars. NCWRPC Adopts Health Pandemic Assessment Plan
|
On January 26th, the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission officially adopted the North Central Wisconsin Health Pandemic Assessment Plan. The overarching goal of the Health Pandemic Assessment Plan is to better prepare the Region for future public health related disruptions.
The North Central Wisconsin Regional Health Pandemic Assessment Plan seeks to analyze county and tribal public health responses to coronavirus within the Region and to create recommendations that would assist counties and tribal entities to better manage health related disruptions in the future. The goals of this assessment include:
Analyzing county and tribal response to the COVID-19 pandemic including:
- Identifying key priority areas
- Analyzing what did and did not work well and where additional support was needed to maintain best practices
- Creating recommendations to better deal with future pandemic and health related disruptions

Project Growth Childcare System Grant Programs
|
The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) has opened the application process for Project Growth, a $20 million grant program designed to help solve the challenges facing Wisconsin’s child care system and bolster the state’s economy.
Project Growth is offering two unique grants - Partner Up! and Dream Up! - aimed at making high-quality, affordable child care more accessible and sustainable across Wisconsin.

Partner Up! Grant Program
The Partner Up! Grant Program will provide $10 million in funding to support partnerships between businesses who purchase slots at existing regulated child care providers. The funding will be awarded based on existing community child care needs throughout Wisconsin. The funding from this program can be used to increase staff compensation, pay expenses, reserve child care slots for local business employees, improve the quality of a child care program, and more.
Businesses and childcare providers who want to help sponsor the cost of their employee's child care are eligible to apply. Applications for the Partner Up! Grant Program close April 4, at 5 p.m. CST. Priority consideration will be given for submissions received by March 14, 2022.

Dream Up! Grant Program
The Dream Up! Grant Program will offer $8.1 million to directly support 30 communities and child care programs around the state, over the next two years. The Dream Up! grant program focuses on building childcare supply through a collaborative community approach. Through these collaborative community approaches, teams of community stakeholders will work to evaluate, plan, sustain, and expand existing child care, and support new child care programs.
Applications should be submitted by a team of invested community members. Teams are encouraged to include a cross-sector of professionals. Team representatives may include (but are not limited to):
- Local business leaders
- Community and civic organizations
- Economic development programs
- Childcare programs
- School districts
- Local government
- City or county administrations

17th Annual Sustainable Forestry Conference
|
The 17th Annual Sustainable Forestry Conference will be held Wednesday, April 6th from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm at the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge (4960 Hwy 101, Florence, WI 54121), located 4 miles south of Florence. This year's conference focuses on "Emerging Strategies and Practices". Speakers will address Markets Update, Forest Health, Carbon Credits, Logging and Mill Safety Tips, Terrestrial Invasive Species, Good Neighbor Authority and MI/WI Legislative Update.
Organizers encourage individuals from regional forest products and logging businesses, entrepreneurs, local governments, forestry/land management organizations, school boards, school administration, utilities, economic development entities, state government and other related associations and resource agencies to attend.

Main Street Bounceback Grants Program Update
|
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is partnering with the NCWRPC to administer the Main Street Bounceback Grants program which provides $10,000 grants to new or existing businesses and non-profit organizations moving into vacant properties in Wisconsin's downtowns and commercial corridors.
To date, the NCWRPC has received over 220 applications for the Main Street Bounceback Grants program and has awarded 206 applications throughout the Region. The NCWRPC is continuing to accept applications for the Main Street Bounceback Grants program until funding runs out, or through June 30, 2022, whichever comes first.
Eligible businesses can use the grant funds for lease or mortgage payments, operating expenses, building repairs, tenant improvements, and other qualified expenses. Funds cannot be used on storage spaces or for residential uses.
As part of this program, the NCWRPC is providing one-time funds to organizations that have leased or purchased vacant commercial properties as of January 1, 2021 or will do so by June 30, 2022. New or established businesses and non-profit organizations are all eligible, as long as you are not vacating another existing commercial space in Wisconsin.

The NCWRPC continues its partnership with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to provide economic development analysis data throughout the Region. A comprehensive economic modeling program, called Analyst, developed by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) is a tool that provides industry/ occupation data, impact assessments, and economic base analysis information.
