With the intent of identifying and addressing actionable community health needs, CommonSpirit Health collaborated with the Center for Social Research at North Dakota State University (CSR) to conduct community health needs assessments for 13 North Dakota and Minnesota hospitals in the CommonSpirit Health System. In this month’s article, Avram Sloan, CSR research specialist, discusses the extent to which community respondents are concerned about mental health and substance use and misuse in their communities, as well as the changes that they perceive regarding the severity of these concerns.

These institutions offer associate's degrees and certificate programs, and many also provide pathways for students to transfer to four-year universities to earn bachelor's degrees. Graduation and transfer rates are key indicators of how effectively colleges support student success and mobility. National education statistics indicate that from 2010 to 2022, North Dakota’s two-year colleges consistently outperformed national averages when graduation and transfer outcomes are combined.
