Recipes For Success
Fresh Food For Rural Communities.
For the newly incorporated Rural Access Distribution Co-op, success is keeping rural grocery stores open and ensuring food accessibility in the communities they serve. To accomplish this, the cooperative recently launched a food distribution network in Walsh County, which unites three small-town grocers; delivers products to two communities without local food access; and aims to improve affordability, variety, and convenience for the people who live in the local areas.

In this article Karen Olson, research specialist and Nancy Hodur, Director of the Center for Social Research at North Dakota State University provide some insight into this unique endeavor.

Build Communities-One House At A Time.
According to the newly released 2020 Census data, the total number of housing units in North Dakota grew by 17 percent from 2010 to 2020. While two of the North Dakota counties lead the nation in percentage growth of housing units at the county level from 2010 to 2020, the number of housing units decreased in 32 North Dakota counties and stayed about the same in 5 counties.
Use The Right Tools.
During the past year, North Dakota Compass developed new resources to help North Dakota organizations and communities in their efforts to respond to the many challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The resources are summarized in an infographic with links to each resource. Explore them all and share these resources with other people who may benefit of them.

Find The Missing Ingredient.
Volunteers are important community assets, helping to enrich the lives of those they serve and often providing care and services that neither government nor the private sector can afford to provide on their own.

Data released in 2019 show that 32% of U.S. residents (age 16 and older) volunteered in the past year. What percentage of North Dakota residents in the same age group volunteered during the same time period?
a. 27%
b. 32%
c. 35%
d. 39%
