Chicago Urban Plunge
From January 3-5, 2025, twelve sophomore students participated in the Chicago Urban Plunge Trip, led by Fr. Patrick, Mrs. Gerondale, and Fr. Jordan, with arrangements by Mrs. Waters. The trip began with a Mass by Bishop Bob Lombardo in the sisters' chapel. Despite the 12-degree weather, the group spent 3.5 hours distributing clothes in Humboldt Park and later assisted in the pantry and church.
Bishop Bob, founder of the Franciscans of the Eucharist of Chicago, oversees the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, which provides clothing on the first Saturday of each month and operates a food pantry on Tuesdays. The students’ Spanish skills were invaluable in serving the local Ecuadorian immigrant community.

Be Well NDA - January - Decision Making/Goal Setting
January is an excellent time to focus on goal setting and decision-making. Assisting your teen in setting goals and making decisions is a powerful way to guide them toward independence and confidence. Begin by encouraging open discussions about their interests, values, and aspirations. Use these insights to help them establish realistic and achievable goals.
Steps for Effective Goal Setting
- Encourage Open Conversations: Discuss their passions and dreams to understand their motivations.
- Set Realistic Goals: Help them outline goals that are attainable and meaningful.
- Break Down Goals: Teach them to divide larger goals into smaller, manageable steps.
- Emphasize Perseverance and Adaptability: Instill the importance of staying committed and being flexible in their approach.
Decision-Making Skills
When teaching decision-making, demonstrate thoughtful consideration of options and potential outcomes. Encourage them to:
- Weigh Pros and Cons: Analyze the benefits and drawbacks before making a decision.
- Learn from Experiences: Support them in learning from both successes and setbacks, ensuring they feel empowered to take ownership of their choices.
Remember, this is their journey. Provide a safe space where they feel confident to explore and grow.
