U.S. Drought Monitor

The Midwest stayed drought free, even though a new area of abnormal dryness was introduced in northern Minnesota. Most other areas of the Midwest have taken on an extended period of cool, cloudy, and rainy weather. Rain trimmed down the D0 coverage in the eastern Dakotas. However, most other areas in the Dakotas was bypassed.

Looking at May 30 to June 3, the odds will be tilted toward near to above normal rainfall across most of the country. Drier than normal conditions can be expected from the Pacific Northwest into the upper Midwest.

Federal Grain Inspection Service Issues Sample Collection Responsibilities for Verifying Accuracy of Moisture Meter Calibrations

Each year a Moisture Meter Calibration Study is conducted on current year crop samples. The study assesses the accuracy of the official inspection system and of National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP)-certified moisture meters.

The purpose of the study is to obtain representative samples from the entire nation. Once samples are received at the Inspection Instrumentation Branch they create a table with results from field offices and the types of grains.
