Mark your calendars! The New England Council's 2019 Washington Leaders' Conference--formerly known as the Annual Spring Event--will take place on
Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9, in Washington, DC.
In addition to a new name, we are also making some exciting changes to the program this year based upon feedback from our members, including:
- A welcome luncheon on Wednesday, May 8, featuring commentary from several prominent journalists on the climate in Washington.
- Additional meetings with federal agency officials and Congressional offices for our various policy committees.

January: NH Institute of Politics' Neil Levesque Talks 2020
|
The first episode of the 2019 season of DC Dialogue on NECN aired on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Our guest in the first segment was
Neil Levesque, Executive Director of the
New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College. Neil shared his insights on the field of 2020 presidential candidates taking shape, including the record number of female candidates.
Later in the show, Jim Brett and Peter Howe were joined by Steve Kadish, Chairman of the Massachusetts
Commission on the Future of Transportation. Steve outlined some of the key recommendations set forth in the Commission's report, which was released in December 2018.

Op-Ed Outlines Priorities for 116th Congress
|
As the 116th Congress got underway in January, the NEC President and CEO Jim Brett penned an op-ed outlining several top priorities for our leaders on Capitol Hill. Specifically, the piece urged Congress to take action to invest in infrastructure, to approve the new trade deal with Canada and Mexico, and to fund medical and scientific research. The op-ed was published in several publications throughout the region:
In addition, several days after publishing the Council's op-ed, the Providence Journal ran an editorial endorsing the Council's recommendations.

Financial Service Committee 2019 Planning Meeting
|
The NEC Financial Services Committee will gather for a 2019 Planning Meeting on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at the offices of Liberty Mutual. The purpose of the meeting is to identify priorities and plan committee activities for the year. Members can also participate remotely via conference call. For more information, please contact

Higher Education Committee Conference Call with Sen. Warren's Education Staff
|
The NEC Higher Education Committee will host a conference call with Josh Delaney, Senior Education Policy Advisor to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Wednesday February 6, at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Delaney will update members on Sen. Warren's priorities as a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and the committee's overall agenda for the year.
